The home of the Corpus Christi Hooks made its debut on Sunday, April 17, 2005, when the Hooks played host to the Midland RockHounds.
Each spring, fans across the Coastal Bend eagerly anticipate the annual renewal that is baseball season!
Corpus Christi's Whataburger Field, completed in 2005 at a cost of $25 million, is home to the Hooks, Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Houston Astros. Now owned by their parent club, the Hooks focus on exemplary customer service in a family-friendly environment. Advance ticket prices of $11-$15 for reserved seats and $6-$7 for general admission meet affordability requirements.
In 2015, the Hooks play 70 games at Whataburger Field between April 7 and August 29. For complete schedule and ticket information, go to cchooks.com
The ballpark occupies land once dominated by cotton warehouses at the Port of Corpus Christi. Its architectural attributes, from mammoth wood beams to corrugated siding, pay tribute to the site's heritage. The scoreboard in left-center field is framed by antique cotton presses, one which dates to the 1920s.
This is an oh-so intimate venue with modern amenities and clever design features. For example, patrons never lose sight of the game on the field while in concession lines. From standard stadium fare to funnel cakes to chopped beef sandwiches to fresh-squeezed lemonade to gourmet pretzels to stuffed baked potatoes to specialty frozen treats to shrimp boats and sweet potato fries, no one goes home hungry.
Signature item is "The Babe," a cheddarwurst wrapped in hamburger wrapped in bacon.
During games, large oceangoing vessels and their tiny tugboat escorts navigate the port's ship channel, which runs behind the stadium compound. Ships clear the iconic Harbor Bridge (1959), a magnificent span for Highway 181, before churning out to the Gulf of Mexico through Corpus Christi Bay.
