"Hit the Books" Reading Program

Reading Program

"Hit the Books" Reading Program presented by Children's Dentistry & Orthodontics of Lynchburg

The Hillcats areteaming up with Children's Dentistry & Orthodontics of Lynchburg in an effort to support reading initiatives in local schools! Reading skills are an important foundation for the success of children, and Southpaw and the Hillcats hope to help young students find reading fun! With no costs to schools, sign up for the "Hit the Books" reading program today!

How it Works:

We provide all students participating with bookmarks of a baseball diamond. As each student reads a book, they advance to a base. Once a participating student reads four books, they've hit a home run! Students may then redeem their completed bookmarks for two free dated tickets to a Hillcats game!

Southpaw, Assemblies, and more!

Schools also have the option of hosting an assembly for the "Hit the Books" Reading Program. The Hillcats will send out a representative and Southpaw to explain the program to your students and excite them on the merits of reading! Assemblies usually take place in February or March and students receive tickets to a home game usually in May. For more information, or if you would like your school to participate, contact John Hutt at 434-528-1144 or email him at
