Don Mincher Bio

Don Mincher originally joined the league as General Manager of the Huntsville Stars in 1984. He assembled a group of local owners and purchased the Stars in 1994, marking the first time the team was locally owned and operated. During his tenure, the Stars won two Southern League Championships and sent countless players onto the majors.

Mincher was a very successful owner/operator of the Stars and enjoyed consistent attendance numbers at Joe Davis Stadium. His peers honored him twice during that time as Southern League Executive of the Year. Elected to the Southern League presidency in October 2000 after serving several months as Interim President, Mincher looks forward to the 2008 season -- a campaign during which he will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.

Mincher continues to be one of many who carry the torch for Minor League Baseball, especially the Southern League. His love for the developmental side of the game is evidenced by his concerns for the players, umpires and young, enthusiastic front office personnel all striving to reach the ultimate goal -- Major League Baseball.

President Mincher's mission is to continue to promote the traditional aspects of the minors -- wholesome, fun, family entertainment at a reasonable price along with giving fans the opportunity to rub elbows with the stars of tomorrow. "We encourage our players to sign autographs and interact with our fans whenever possible -- it personalizes the experience for everyone involved and creates great memories for so many."

A 13-year major leaguer, Mincher capped his playing career by winning a World Series ring as a member of the Oakland Athletics in 1972. The two-time American League All-Star hit 200 home runs during his big league career with the Minnesota Twins, California Angels, Seattle Pilots, Washington Senators, Texas Rangers and A's.

President Mincher and his wife Pat reside in Huntsville near their three grown children and six grandchildren. Mincher oversees the Southern League's operations from his home office, while administration of the league's day-to-day business affairs is handled from the Marietta, GA office.
