Mother's Day and Father's Day 5K

MOTHER'S DAY 5K- Sunday, May 11, 2014

Kids Race Starts at 8:30 AM

5K Starts at 9:15 AM

 

***Security Procedures will require that all bags be searched. It is highly recommended that you leave any bags at home or in your car. Thank you for your patience and understanding.***

The Portland Sea Dogs in conjunction with Intermed and the Maine Track Club will be hosting the 14th Annual Mother's Day 5k Road Race presented by Intermed on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11th, 2014. Proceeds from the race go towards Maine breast cancer patients and research with the funds being split between the Cancer Community Center and the Maine Cancer Foundation. There will also be a Kid's Run that is free of charge.

Slugger and his Mom lead the way on the flat 5K course which begins in front of the Portland Expo building, travels down Congress Street, turning down Stevens Avenue, and making a right onto Brighton Avenue back down Deering Avenue into Fitzpatrick Stadium. The race culminates inside Hadlock Field in front of the third base dugout.

The top overall male and female finishers will receive a trophy, a pair of 2014 Season Tickets for the remainder of the 2014 Sea Dogs season, and throw out the ceremonial first-pitch prior to a future Sea Dogs game. The top three male and female finishers in each age group will also be presented with awards. All participants of the race will receive a complimentary ticket to attend a future Sea Dogs game.

*Kids: 7:00 AM to 8:15 AM

*5K: 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM

The first 1,500 registered runners will receive a race t-shirt.

The Portland Sea Dogs in conjunction with the Maine Medical Partners Urology, and the Maine Track Club, will be hosting the Fifth Annual Father's Day 5k Road Race on Father's Day, Sunday, June 15th, 2014. Proceeds from the event will benefit Maine Coalition to Fight Prostate Cancer. There will also be a Kid's Run that is free of charge.

2010 FATHER'S DAY RACE RECAP

Robbie Gomez of Westbrook took home the top spot in the "Second Annual Portland Sea Dogs Father's Day 5K Road Race" held Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Hadlock Field in Portland. Gomez finished with a time of 15 minutes, 24 seconds while Josh Zolla of Freeport (15:43) and Andy Spaulding (16:08) also of Freeport took second and third place respectively.

Kristin Berry of Scarborough completed the doublehaeder by winning the Father's Day Race after winning the Mother's Day Race in May. Berry finished in 17 minutes, 14 seconds while Sheri Piers (17:27) of Falmouth finished second and Erica Jesseman (17:51)rounded out the top three.

The second year race, presented by Maine Medical Partners Urology, featured 1,527 registered runners and 1,196 finishers making it the second largest 5K in Maine behind only the Mother's Day 5K. A total of $11,500 was raised to fight prostate cancer in Maine!

2010 MOTHER'S DAY RACE RECAP

Louis Lucchini of Ellsworth and Kristin Barry of Scarborough took the top spot at the 10th Annual Portland Sea Dogs Mother's Day 5K with times of 14:56 and 17:04.

The race featured a state of Maine 5K record 2,950 registered runners who were cheered on by more than a thousandwell-wishers as they crossed the finish line inside Hadlock Field. The event is the largest 5K in Maine and second largest Road Race in Maine.

Last year's winner Curtis Wheeler (15:03) of Buxton place second and Josh Zolla (15:44)of Freeport finished third. Gabrielle Cyr of Buxton was second in the women's with a time of 18:48 and Meredith Freimer of Scarborough took third place with a time of 18:57.

 

The 10th year race raised $25,000 to fight breast cancer in the state of Maine.

2009 FATHER'S DAY RACE RECAP

Ben True of North Yarmouth took home the top spot in the "First Annual Portland Sea Dogs Father's Day 5K Road Race" held Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Hadlock Field in Portland. True finished with a time of 15 minutes, 11 seconds while six time Mother's Day champion Ethan Hemphill of Freeport finished second (15:28) and Robert Gomez of Biddeford finished third (15:31).

Sheri Piers of Falmouth set a female course record finishing the race in 16 minutes, 59 seconds to take the top female spot. Mandy Ivey of Auburn (18:58) finished second and Jeanne Hackett of Scarborough (19:23) rounded out the top three.

The inaugural race, presented by Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute and Peak Performance, featured 1,277 registered runners and 932 finishers making it the second largest 5K in Maine behind only the Mother's Day 5K.

2009 MOTHER'S DAY RACE RECAP

Curtis Wheeler of Buxton and Christine Reaser of Dayton took the top spot at the Ninth Annual Portland Sea Dogs Mother's Day 5K with times of 15:16 and 19:00.

The race featured a state of Maine 5K record 2,542 registered runners who were cheered on by more than a thousandwell-wishers as they crossed the finish line inside Hadlock Field. The event is the largest 5K in Maine and second largest Road Race.

Dan Vassallo of Wilmington, Massachusetts, took second in 15:23. P.J. Gorneault of Caribou finished third and won the men's 30-34 age group in 15:23. Amy Lilley of Scarborough was second in the women's with a time of 19:24 and won the women's 35-39. Jeanne Hackett of Scarborough took third in 19:28, winning the women's 50-54.

Emily Bugbee of Cape Elizabeth and Gloria White of Portland won the mother/daughter team event with a combined time of 49:25 (23:37 and 25:48). Second place went to Beth Rand of Cape Elizabeth in 23:16 and Natalie Rand of Cape Elizabeth in 26:27 for a combined total of 49:43. Chelsea Bean of Bethel in 27:13 and Aimee Harmon of Bethel in 23:32 finished third in 50:45.

Robert Hall of Scarborough in 18:25 and Denise Curry of Windham in 23:03 won the mother/son team event with a combined time of 41:28. Isaak Emery of North Yarmouth in 19:27 and Celeste Emery of North Yarmouth in 22:39 won second with a time of 42:06. Third went to Oscar Boyson of New York, New York, in 20:08 and Nancy Grant of Portland in 22:43, for a combined time of 42:51.

2008 RACE RECAP:

The Portland Sea Dogs Mother's Day 5K continues to grow by leaps and bounds, as a record field of more than 1,900 completed the eighth edition of the largest 5K race in Maine -- smashing last year's record by almost 500.

For the sixth time in seven years, Ethan Hemphill, 35, of Freeport paced the field, finishing in 15 minutes, 14 seconds. Judson Cake, 30, of Bar Harbor was close behind in 15:19, and Jonathan Wilson, 20, of Falmouth was third in 15:21.

Sheri Piers, 36, of Falmouth edged training partner Kristin Barry, 34, of Scarborough for the women's title, reversing the order of finish from the previous two years. Piers and Barry were both timed in 17:26, matching Barry's course record. Carry Buterbaugh, 36, of South Portland was third for the second year in a row with a time of 17:59

2007 RACE RECAP:

Highlighted by ideal running weather and a record field the "Seventh Annual Portland Sea Dogs Mother's Day 5K Road Race" presented by Paradigm Windows and Sportshoe Center took place on Sunday, May 13th starting and finishing at Hadlock Field in Portland. The race is hosted by the Sea Dogs and the Maine Track Club and raises money for the Maine Cancer Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. A new record 1,650 runners registered for the race making the race the largest 5K in Maine and fifth largest 5K in New England.

Louis Luchini of Ellsworth took the top spot, while shattering the course record, finishing in just 14 minutes, 30 second. Five-time champion Ethan Hemphill of Freeport took second finishing in 15 minutes, 27 seconds while Dan Franek (15:34) of South Portland rounded out the top three.

Meanwhile in the women's division, for the second straight year, Kristin Barry (17:35) of Scarborough and Sheri McCarthy-Pier (17:49) claimed the top two spots. Carry Buterbaugh (18:46) of South Portland finished third.

Record Attendance for the Sixth Annual Race Benefiting Breast Cancer Research

The Sixth Annual Portland Sea Dogs Mother's Day 5K Road Race presented by Paradigm Windows took place on Sunday, May 14th starting and finishing at Hadlock Field in Portland. The race is hosted by the Sea Dogs and the Maine Track Club and raises money for the Maine Cancer Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. A record 1,175 runners registered for the race.

For the fifth consecutive year Freeport's Ethan Hemphill took the top spot finishing in 15 minutes, 29 seconds. Hemphill edged Joel Anderson (15:30) of Brunswick and Scott Lomis (15:32) of Malden, Massachusetts who rounded out the top three.

Kristin Berry of Scarborough took the top female spot finishing in 17:26 while Sheri Piers of Falmouth and Katie Ryan of Brookline, Massachusetts both finished at 18:19.
