In 2001 the Portland Sea Dogs teamed up with the Maine Track Club to host a family friendly 5K race. That first year we had 332 finishers and the race has grown in support through the years. Just as with a Sea Dog game we have always kept the pricing for the race at less than the local average and try to include special perks for the runners including a ticket to a Sea Dog game and free t shirts for the first 1,500 runners.
As of the 2016 race the event has had 25,760 finishers and raised $224,507 to help breast cancer research and breast cancer patients going through treatment right here in the state of Maine.
From 2009 through 2016 the Sea Dogs hosted a Father's Day Road Race to benefit the Prostate Cancer Coalition of Maine. The eight year run saw us raise $70,000 for the foundation.
