Strike Out Cancer in Kids

The "TD Bank Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program" has raised more than $4.0 million in just 15 seasons to benefit the children -- and their families -- undergoing cancer treatment at the Maine Children's Cancer Program in Scarborough, Maine.

The program is based on three leagues of fundraising teams. Teams are groups of volunteers who agree to collect donations from their co-workers, classmates, families, friends, and neighbors. Each Team has a Team Manager who organizes his/her team and motivates the Team Members (also called Team Players) to reach their goal by soliciting donations and organizing small fundraisers such as raffles, auctions, bake sales and jeans days.

The "Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program" was developed in 1994 when the Portland Sea Dogs and Peoples Heritage Bank teamed together to combine their resources to support a community activity to enrich the quality of life in Maine. Together they created the season long fundraising activity for the Maine Children's Cancer Program, in which people pledge any amount of money for each Portland Sea Dogs' pitcher strikeout. Through the years the program has evolved into the largest fundraising program for the Maine Children's Cancer Program and in 2008 the "Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program" raised an incredible $334,000!

All funds raised by teams in the TD Bank Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program provide the care that is vital to the survival of our children and families at the Maine Children's Cancer Program.
