Team FAQ's

Do the Hawks hold tryouts for players?
No. All players are scouted and signed to professional contracts by our parent club, the Colorado Rockies.

Who is the Hawks Big League parent club?
The Colorado Rockies.

What level of Minor League Baseball do the Hawks play?
The Hawks are a Short-Season, Single A Club that plays in the Northwest League. The NWL provides many players with their first look at professional baseball, playing from mid-June (after the MLB Draft each year) until early September. The Hawks play 76 games in 79 days.

When does the team arrive in Boise?
The team is comprised mainly of players who have either been recently drafted, or those players that have been in extended Spring Training in Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, AZ. They arrive in mid-June.

Why does the Hawks roster change so often?
Frankly, that's the nature of Minor League Baseball. If you notice, you'll see several of our players advance to Asheville or Modesto (the Rockies' long-season, Single A affiliates) or we'll have players called up from Grand Junction (the Rockies' rookie league affiliate). It's really dependent upon player needs throughout the Rockies organization.

Where do the players stay while in Boise?
The Hawks are fortunate enough to be able to stay in the homes of local families during their summer stay in Boise.
