Wild About Reading

Once again, it's to time to kick off our elementary school reading program! Parker and the Grizzlies front office staff are busy preparing for the 2016 Wild About Reading program, presented by Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino, PG&E, Educational Employees Credit Union and Save Mart Supermarkets.

Wild About Reading is one the largest educational initiatives in all of Minor League Baseball. The program utilizes baseball to promote reading in the classroom. Each student at participating schools that reads 10 books in five weeks earns two free tickets to a 2016 Grizzlies game at Chukchansi Park. Each participating school hosts a kickoff assembly featuring Parker, the Grizzlies mascot.

From January to April of 2016, the program's 13th year of existence, Parker and the Grizzlies staff will reach out to more than 100,000 students in Fresno, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, and Merced counties and challenge the students to read over 1 million books.

In December of 2008, Wild About Reading was honored with the Fresno Compact Business Partner Award. With the strong nexus between quality education and school business partnerships in mind, the Fresno Compact annually acknowledges ten businesses that have contributed not only financial resources, but also staff to support schools in Fresno County.

How does it work?

Simple: The Grizzlies provide a fun, free assembly and Grizzlies baseball tickets as an incentive to read. The program is designed to reinforce the importance and excitement of reading. Wild About Reading has become an activity the students look forward to every year.

How do I schedule a Wild About Reading Assembly at my school?

Download and complete the Wild About Reading Participation Request Form or contact Whitney Campbell, Grizzlies Community Fund Manager, at (559) 320-2547. She will be more than happy to set up a time that works for your school.

What are some of the scheduling guidelines for the assemblies?

1. ONLY School Principals may register for a school's assembly. Sorry, parents cannot schedule an assembly for your child's school.
2. In order for our program to reach as many students as possible, we require each school to have a minimum of 100 students to host an assembly. If your school has fewer than 100 students, you may partner with other schools in your area and have one large assembly.
3. Due to the overwhelming success of the program, dates fill up quickly. To get a specific date, book early!

See below if your school is already participating in the 2016 Wild About Reading program. Don't see your school listed? Contact us today and get signed up, it's FREE!
