Whataburger Field

The home of the Corpus Christi Hooks made its debut on Sunday, April 17, 2005, when the Hooks played host to the Midland RockHounds.

Whataburger Field, tabbed by Minor League News as the best venue in North America over the last two seasons, is located near the Solomon P. Ortiz Center at the Port of Corpus Christi. The facility was designed by HKS, the same firm responsible for designing The Dell Diamond in Round Rock, American Airlines Center (Dallas Mavericks/Stars), Ameriquest Field in Arlington (Texas Rangers), Miller Park (Milwaukee Brewers), Dr. Pepper Ballpark (Frisco RoughRiders), U.S. Cellular Field (Chicago White Sox) renovations and the RCA Dome (Indianapolis Colts). The stadium offers magnificent views of the Harbor Bridge, ship channel and Corpus Christi Bay. Fans can see the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium from inside the park.

Whataburger Field features 5,050 fixed seats, 19 luxury suites and two outfield berm areas to accommodate nearly 2,000 fans. The ballpark was designed to have the "feel" of an old ballpark, harkening back to an era when the sport was in its golden age. It was also the intent of architects and builders to pay tribute to the cotton industry and the warehouses that previously occupied the site where the stadium now stands. The new facility has the look of an old cotton warehouse and the exterior consists of corrugated steel and bricks. The main entry features two large columns designed in the style of support beams for the warehouse roofs.

The stadium carries the name Whataburger Field because the Hooks and Whataburger, Inc., announced a 15-year partnership, including naming rights for the facility.

"Ryan-Sanders Baseball is a family business," said Nolan Ryan. "We're glad to become part of the Whataburger family. This partnership will allow us to bring the most affordable family entertainment possible to baseball fans all over South Texas."

The stadium features many "family friendly" amenities, including the Driscoll Children's Hospital Kids Zone, an interactive playground, the Stripes Diamond, a magnificent baseball field scaled down to youth baseball standards, a SportCourt basketball playing surface, a 27' high rock wall, a 16' tall x 22' wide video board, the APEX Pool and Spa and Kieschnick's Korner, a covered area great for groups and pre-game functions.
