Coaching Staff

 

MARTY MALLOY - Manager
Born: Gainesville, FL… Resides: Trenton, FL… Former infielder. Joined the Phillies player development staff prior to the 2017 season as Lakewood's (A) manager. Spent the previous five years (2013-16) with the Houston Astros, including three years as the manager for their Gulf Coast League (R) team, one year as the GCL hitting coach and one year as the Florida Instructional League coordinator. Also coached at the amateur level as head coach (two years) and volunteer assistant (six years) for Trenton High School and six years as an infield instructor at Gatorball Baseball Academy in Gainesville, FL. Played 12 years (1992-2003), including his first eight in the Atlanta Braves minor league system.

TYLER HENSON - Hitting Coach
Born: Oklahoma City, OK… Resides: Frederick, MD… Former infielder. Joined the Phillies player development staff in a full-time capacity in 2017 as a coach for Williamsport (A) after spending 2016 as a player/coach for Clearwater (A). Originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 5th round of the 2006 draft. Played 10 seasons (2006-15) in the minor leagues, including the final four in the Phillies organization with Reading (AA) and Lehigh Valley (AAA). Finished his career with a .263 batting average, 235 doubles, 67 home runs and 137 stolen bases in 1,058 games.

MILVER REYES - Coach
Born: San Felipe, VZ… Resides: Waukegan, IL… Former catcher. Worked six seasons (2010-15) as a coach in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system before spending the last two years as an independently employed baseball coach. Managed the Gulf Coast Pirates (R) for three years (2013-15) after working two years as a player/coach with the team. Was also the coordinator for extended spring training. Played 12 years (1999-2010) in the Pirates minor league system, from rookie ball to triple-A.

BRAD BERGESEN - Pitching Coach
Born: Concord, CA… Resides: Auburn, AL… Former pitcher. The 2018 season marks his first as a coach at the professional level. Pitched in the major leagues for four years for the Baltimore Orioles (2009-11) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2012), going 19-25 with four complete games and a 4.61 ERA in 102 games (59 starts). In 2013, made 14 appearances for the Chunichi Dragons of the Central League in Japan. More recently, pitched in the independent Atlantic League for the York Revolution (2015) and Lancaster Barnstormers (2017). Was originally selected by the Orioles in the fourth round of the June 2004 draft.

KRIS TERRIAN - Athletic Trainer
Born: Pensacola, FL… Resides: Orlando, FL… Joined the Phillies last season as athletic trainer for Williamsport (A) before moving to Lakewood (A) for 2018. Was Boston's minor league assistant athletic trainer in 2016 after spending six years (2010-15) as an athletic trainer with the United States Ski and Snowboard Association. Attained his master's degree in health science from the University of St. Augustine last year and his bachelor's degree in athletic training from the University of South Florida in 2010. Is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist.

HENRY ALECK - Strength & Conditioning Coordinator
Born: Los Angeles, CA… Resides: Ft. Worth, TX… Joins the Phillies player development staff for the 2018 season, his first position with a professional sports team. Spent the last two years working at the collegiate level as the strength and conditioning coach for the Longhorns baseball team at the University of Texas at Austin and working with the baseball, softball, water polo and swimming & diving teams at UCLA. Earned his master's degree in applied exercise science at Concordia University and has a bachelor's degree in strategic communication & kinesiology from Texas Christian University.
