Gary Brown Named Cal League Rookie of the Year
Center fielder Gary Brown has been named California League Rookie of the Year to highlight four San Jose Giants selections to the postseason All-Star team as announced today by the league. Catcher Tommy Joseph and pitcher Craig Westcott also garnered recognition while pitching coach Brian Cooper was selected as California League Coach of the Year.
Gary Brown wins 2011 San Jose Giants 24-Hour Fitness Most Valuable Player
Gary was named to the midseason and postseason California League All-Star teams while also earning the league Rookie of the Year award. The first-year pro led the Giants in batting average (.336), runs scored (115), hits (188), triples (13), stolen bases (53) and on-base percentage (.407). He is tied for second on the club in home runs (14) and doubles (34) and third in RBI (80). He set the team record for hits in a single-season and ranks second all-time in runs scored and triples.
Craig Westcott and Chirs Heston win 2011 San Jose Giants co-Pitchers of the Year
Craig was named to both the midseason & postseason California League All-Star teams. He's compiled a stellar 13-4 record with a 3.42 ERA and is currently first in the league in wins and fourth in ERA while the right-hander has allowed no earned runs in nine of his starts. Chris was an All-Star selection this season and led the California League with a 3.16 ERA. He's compiled a 12-4 record and hasn't lost a game since late-June. He leads the Giants with 128 strikeouts while issuing only 39 walks over 145 innings.
Tommy Joseph won the Hebrew National San Jose Giants Defensive Player of the Year
Tommy Joseph won the 2011 Hebrew National San Jose Giants Defensive Player of the Year Saturday Night at Municipal Stadium. Tommy has enjoyed a standout year as the anchor of the Giants defense. He's thrown out a league-best 38% of runners attempting to steal and he's also the primary catcher of a pitching staff that leads the California League in ERA at 3.53 and has thrown the most shutouts in all of Minor League Baseball at 14.
Heath Hembree and Jake Dunning win San Jose Giants Relief Pitchers of the Year Award
Heath Hembree and Jake Dunning both won the San Jose Giants Relief Pitchers of the Year Award for the 2011 season. Even though Hembree only played in the first half of the season before being called up to Richmond, he still leads the California League with 21 saves. Dunning has pitched great over his last 10 outings, posting a 1-0 record with seven saves while posting a 0.75 ERA.
Alex Burg wins San Jose Giants Nettie Rappe Good Guy Award
Alex Burg won the San Jose Giants Nettie Rappé Good Guy Award for the 2011 season. Alex always extends kindness to others and giving more than he gets. He plays an important part both on and off the field and is a tremendous representative of the San Jose Giants. Alex is always visible in the community, making an impact to kids during his visits to local schools. Alex Burg is a true Giant in the Community.

Gary Brown won the San Jose Giants Offensive Player of the Year. He leads the team in hits, triples, stolen bases, OBP and batting average. In fact, Brown leads the California League in hits and is towards the top all of Minor League Baseball.
