Go Green with the Rock Cats "Green Team"

The New Britain Rock Cats - with the support of several community partners - have undertaken a new "Green Team Initiative" for the 2010 season. In an effort to stimulate more earth friendly practices both in the stadium and in fans' homes, the program will:
1) Work to make New Britain Stadium a more sustainable/green facility
2) Educate the public.

EDUCATION -
The Rock Cats are utilizing their popularity and passionate fan base to educate Connecticut residents on what they can do at home to benefit the environment.  This campaign will emphasize the importance of "going green" and includes a live-interactive in-stadium exhibit ("The Green House"), as well as in-stadium messaging, distributing literature, weekly tips, green-themed fan promotions, media advertising mentions, special event days, education seminars, and more.

NEW BRITAIN STADIUM
Some of the initiatives undertaken at the stadium include:

  • Recycling - The team has intensified recycling efforts in the stadium for bottles and cans that are generated by attendees, as well as paper, plastic, cardboard, and glass resulting from behind the scenes operations.  Allwaste of Hartford is providing a "single source" recycling option for the stadium.  Rock Cats official beverage partner - Pepsi - has provide new recycling bins for use at games.
  • Reusing - Janitorial supplies used within the stadium - garbage bags, paper towels, tissue paper, and other materials - will be made from partially recycled-content.  Berlin based Green Supply Company - a leader in supplying businesses and schools with eco-friendly paper goods and janitorial supplies - is supplying these products to the stadium.
  • Reducing - The New Britain Stadium concourse and office has recently been retrofitted with High Efficiency Lighting and lighting controls.  The team has partnered with Lantern Energy among others to examine instituting further energy saving tactics in the future.

Through this "Green Team" Initiative the Rock Cats are hopeful that their fans and partners will become more environmentally responsible.  For more information on the "Green Team" please contact the Rock Cats at 860-224-8383.
