Andrew Berlin Owner & Chairman

Andrew Berlin

Andrew Berlin is Chairman and owner of the South Bend Cubs. He purchased the team from former Governor of Indiana Joe Kernan, announced November 11, 2011 at 11:11am.

Berlin is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chicago-based, Berlin Packaging where he oversees North America's largest Hybrid Packaging Supplier™ of plastic, glass, and metal containers and closures. In October of 2014, Berlin Packaging was valued at $1.43bn.

Andrew Berlin is also a Partner in the Chicago Cubs. Berlin notes, "It is very exciting to be part of both Cubs organizations, in Chicago and South Bend! The fans are incredible and attendance has more than doubled in the last three years."

Berlin's commitment to the City of South Bend includes a new agreement for the use of Four Winds Field that will keep the team in South Bend for the next twenty years -- the first multiple decade commitment in the history of professional baseball in South Bend.

Andrew Berlin's education includes:

-Juris Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from Loyola University of Chicago Law School where he served as Managing Editor of the Law Review

-Attendance at the Graduate School of Business Executive Program at Stanford University

-Study of Military history at Boston College

-Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in political science from Syracuse University

 


Joe Hart President

Joe Hart

Joe is a graduate of West Virginia University and has been working in Minor League Baseball since 1995. He is from Emporium, Pennsylvania, and is married to his wife Tracy, and has three children.

During his tenure in baseball he has traveled across the country working for teams in Buffalo, New York, Nashville, Tennessee, Fresno, California, Port Charlotte, Florida, and now in South Bend. Currently, Joe leads the South Bend Cubs while holding the position of Team President. Joe was tasked with the challenge of turning around a franchise that had fallen on hard times while at the same time overseeing more than $5,000,000 in stadium upgrades and improvements.

Since taking over as President prior to the 2012 season, the Silver Hawks/South Bend Cubs have seen a strong resurgence in the community and the region by posting over 130% attendance. In addition to increasing the season attendance, Hart was also instrumental in signing a 10-year naming rights deal for the ballpark with Four Winds Casino Resort.

Prior to landing in South Bend, Joe was tabbed as the General Manager for one of the Ripken Baseball Franchises, the Charlotte Stone Crabs of the Florida State League. The launch of the Stone Crabs and Hart's three-year tenure were very successful as the franchise was one of the top drawing clubs in the FSL. The success of the franchise led to Joe's selection as the Florida State League Executive of the Year in 2011. Joe won the Midwest League Executive of the Year in 2013 and in 2014 was selected by St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce as an Outstanding Young Business Leader.


Nick Brown Vice President/Business Development

Nick Brown

Nick Brown joined the South Bend staff in November of 2012 as part of the restructured front office. Brown started his professional career in baseball as the Director of Marketing with the Savannah Cardinals of the South Atlantic League. After one season, the franchise adopted a new name and logo which garnered national attention when the franchise became the Sand Gnats. In 1998, Brown become the General Manager of the Savannah franchise. He led the organization to two all-time attendance records and more importantly lead the organization to profitability.

After leaving Savannah in the fall of 2000, Brown worked for a Midwest League franchise with the sole purpose of relocating that team. However, the ownership group was unable to find an acceptable location for the newly acquired team and sold the team to an investment group in Iowa

Brown return to Georgia in 2002 and joined the Augusta GreenJackets of the South Atlantic League. There he took role of General Manager which he held for nearly a decade and through two ownership groups. The organization saw tremendous growth on Brown's leadership which led to five different attendance records and a profitable organization. During his tenure in Augusta, Brown received the General Manger of the Year award in 2010 for the South Atlantic League.

Andy Beuster Assistant General Manager - Tickets

Andy Beuster

The 2016 season will be Andy's fourth season as the Assistant General Manager of Ticket Sales for the South Bend Cubs. Before coming to South Bend, Andy spent four years with Ripken Baseball working for the Charlotte Stone Crabs, Aberdeen IronBirds, and Augusta GreenJackets. He got his start in Minor League Baseball in 2004 while working for the Eugene Emeralds and he also spent time working in sales and marketing for the Denver Nuggets, the Colorado Avalanche, and the Denver Broncos.

Andy is originally from Geneseo, Illinois. He earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he ran cross country. He earned his master's degree in Sports Management from University of the Pacific, where he also served as a graduate assistant in the school's athletic department.

 

 

 


Devon Hastings Box Office Manager

The 2016 season will be Devon's fourth season with South Bend, and her eighth overall in baseball. Before coming to South Bend she worked for the Indianapolis Indians, Gwinnett Braves and Montgomery Biscuits. Hastings hails from LaPorte, IN.

She graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor's Degree in History and from Valparaiso University with a Master's Degree in Sports Administration. Her favorite sports teams include the Michigan Wolverines, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Blackhawks.

 

 

 

 

 


Kevin Drislane Account Executive

The 2016 season will be Kevin's first season with the South Bend Cubs as an Account Executive. Drislane grew up in Schenectady, NY and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2015 with a Sport Management degree.

Prior to coming to South Bend, he spent a summer with the Tri-City ValleyCats in Troy, NY as a Client Services Intern. In his spare time, he likes to golf and root for the New York Mets, Houston Texans, and Notre Dame athletics.

 

 

 

 

 


Logan Lee Account Executive

The 2016 season will be Logan's second season with the South Bend Cubs but his first as an Account Executive having spent last season as the Ticket Operations Intern assisting with the Box Office.

Logan hails from Oakwood, Illinois and received his degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL and was actively involved in SIU athletics from a variety of positions. Prior to coming to South Bend, Logan spent one season with the Daytona Cubs and five seasons working in collegiate summer baseball with the Danville Dans.

He is an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Illinois Fighting Illini but still keeps close tabs on his SIU Salukis and the Illinois State Redbirds.

 

 

 

 


Mitch McKamey Account Executive

Mitch is entering his fourth season with the team after graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Sport Marketing and Management. He played high school baseball locally for Penn High School. In his free time, he enjoys golfing and spending time with his friends and family. Mitch is lifelong University of Michigan fan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Alex Withorn Account Executive

Alex is from Dowagiac, Michigan and graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Sport Management. Alex has worked for three other minor league baseball organizations before the South Bend Cubs. He is a Michigan State fan and proudly supports Central Michigan. Finance and Human Resources

Cheryl Carlson Director of Finance and Human Resources

Cheryl Carlson

2016 will be Cheryl's sixteenth season with South Bend. Cheryl oversees the finance and administrative functions for the South Bend Cubs. Previously, Cheryl was Director of Finance for Palisades Baseball's franchises; Mahoning Valley (OH) Scrappers and the South Bend (IN) Silver Hawks, as well as being responsible for the accounting functions of the Upper Deck Banquet & Catering Company, Riverside Terrace and AML Entertainment.

Cheryl, born and raised in Coldwater, MI, graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education/Mathematics from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. She taught High School and Adult Education before devoting 13 years in the non-profit business sector as Vice-President of Finance for the United Way of Elkhart County. Cheryl was a player on two women's softball teams, both which went to state championships in Indiana and Michigan. She resides in South Bend, Indiana with her husband, Rikk.

 


Kayla Smith Office Manager

The 2016 season will be Kayla's second year with the South Bend Cubs, as she spent last season as a member of the Blue Crew/Promotions Team. She received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) in Mass Communication with a focus on journalism and public relations in 2015. While attending IUSB, Kayla was an active university body and served as a writer for a variety of campus events, but dedicated her time to covering athletics.

An avid sports fan, she is a dedicated follower of the Chicago Cubs, Bulls, and Bears.

 

 

 

 

 


Food and Beverage

Nick Barkley Director of Food Services

Nick Barkley Nick Barkley joined PSC in November 2013 as the Director of Food Services. Nick has worked in baseball since graduating from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2000.

He began his career with the Nashville Sounds in their group sales department before moving to Amarillo, TX to take on sponsorship sales as well as game day operations with an independent league team. After his stint in Amarillo, Nick moved to Fullerton, CA to be the AGM of Operations for the Golden Baseball League. Here, Nick got his first taste of the food service industry as he oversaw all operations. From here Nick went back home to Nashville to work with the Sounds in a sales role as well as Stadium Operations Director.

After 3 years with the Sounds, he had the opportunity to be a Director of F&B with Ripken Baseball in their Florida operation, running the Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training. Most recently Nick worked with Sodexo in Round Rock, TX operating concessions for the Round Rock Express. Nick is excited to be in South Bend with the Silver Hawks and looks forward to making this his home for a long time. Nick is married to his wife Charlotte and they have 3 children; Stella, Maisy and Maddon.


Jessica DuVall Catering and Business Manager

The 2016 season will be Jessica's first season in South Bend after recently graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in Food Industry Management. While at Michigan State she interned for the Lansing Lugnuts as their Catering Coordinator and quickly found a love for the position and industry. Being able to join a passion for sports with a career is a big highlight for Jessica.

Jessica grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. In her spare time she enjoys all DIY projects, being out on the lake anytime she can, and spending time with family and friends. GO GREEN!

 

 

 

 

 


Josh Farmer Executive Chef

Josh joined PSC in 2015 as the Executive Chef. He is from Churubusco, IN. This is Josh's first venture in the sports arena. Josh graduated from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in 2003. In 2003 he participated in the opening of Solera restaurant, which was named one of the ten best new restaurants in the world by Food and Wine magazine.

He then moved to Palm Beach Florida to work at The Breakers, which was a five star five diamond resort. During his time there he worked in 6 of the properties different restaurants and kitchens. He then moved to Fort Wayne to accept a sous chef position at Biaggi's Risto rante. During his time there he catered many large off premise parties as well as taught cooking classes.

In 2010 Josh accepted a position in Indianapolis at Seasons 52. A restaurant that specializes in healthy dining, promising that not one dish on their menu has over 475 calories. From there Josh accepted an Executive Chef Partner with Biaggi's Ristorante at their newest location in Carmel, IN. Josh is married to wife Lindsay and has one daughter, Ava.


Media and Promotions

Chris Hagstrom-Jones Director of Creative Services and Promotions

The 2016 season will the third season for Chris Hagstrom-Jones with the South Bend Cubs. Prior to his arrival in 2014, Hagstrom-Jones served as the Director of Video Services for Saluki Athletics at Southern Illinois University. His primary responsibilities included producing all live events at Saluki Stadium and the SIU Arena, developing content for Saluki All-Access on SIUSalukis.com, and teaching a course on Sports Production with the College of Mass Communications and Media Arts.

Prior to arriving at SIU, Hagstrom-Jones was the Director of Production, Entertainment, and Promotions for the Southern Illinois Miners Professional Baseball Team beginning in 2007. While working for the Miners, he was also the broadcast engineer for Saluki Sports Properties. His responsibilities included producing and engineering of all Saluki Football and Basketball games for the radio network and occasionally fill in as a broadcaster for Saluki Baseball and Softball. Hagstrom-Jones received his bachelor's degree in Radio and Television from Southern Illinois University in 2007.

In addition to his duties with the Cubs, he is also a Producer and Director for Notre Dame Athletics and an instructor for the Illinois Media School. He currently resides in South Bend with his husband Zach.

 


Nick Ruthrauff Production Mananger

The 2016 Season will be Nick Ruthrauff's third season in South Bend. Prior to this season, Ruthrauff served as the Production Assistant for the South Bend Silver Hawks. His primary responsibilities included directing all live events at Four Winds Field, graphic design work, and producing in game content.

Prior to arriving in South Bend, Ruthrauff was a producer for Saluki Athletics at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Ruthrauff received his bachelor's degree in Radio, Television & Digital Media from Southern Illinois University in 2013.

 

 

 

 


Darin Pritchett Radio Broadcaster

Darin Pritchett will return as the team's radio play by play broadcaster for the 2016 season.

Pritchett is in his 17th year at WSBT Radio where he is the station's sports director. He will continue his duties which includes hosting Weekday Sportsbeat, broadcasting sports reports on The WSBT Morning News with JT and hosting WSBT Radio's Notre Dame football pre game show. Pritchett is in his 6th season of calling Notre Dame hockey games on New Country 99.9fm.

Pritchett is a 7 time winner of the Indiana Associated Press Play-by-Play broadcaster of the year in the major market division. He also contributed to the WSBT Radio sports team winning three Indiana Broadcasters Association awards for sports coverage.

A 1994 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Pritchett spent two seasons working as an assistant producer in the KMOX Radio booth for St.Louis Cardinals baseball at Busch Stadium. Before arriving at WSBT Radio, Pritchett spent time as a sports producer at KMOX Radio in St.Louis and on air talent at WTIM Radio in Taylorville, Illinois.


Merchandising

Brandy Beehler Director of Merchandise & Licensing

The Wakarusa native begins her fourth season as Director of Merchandise & Licensing at Four Winds Field. Brandy's expertise in the retail industry was gained while working for America's Bikers Inc. and a buyer for Kohl's Department Stores. Those opportunities allowed for Brandy to work in markets ranging from Portland, OR to Daytona, FL thus creating a wealth of knowledge in consumer needs.

Prior to Brandy's venture into retail sales and consumer goods, she worked for Palisades Baseball, 2001-2004, which operated the South Bend Silver Hawks. After leaving the Silver Hawks in 2004, she had brief career as an entertainer as she pursued a lifelong dream of becoming a Rockette.

Brandy resides in Mishawaka and the true loves of her life will always be her three children; Hayden, Nolan and Brooklyn.

 

 


Performance Center

Mark Haley Director of Training and Instruction

Mark Haley

Longtime South Bend manager Mark Haley enters his first season as the director of training and instruction for the South Bend Cubs Performance Center in 2015.

The Performance Center will serve as a batting cage for the Cubs while also affording local baseball and softball players the opportunity to use the facility to improve their skills, as well.

Haley served as the South Bend manager for 10 seasons (2005-14) and piled up an unprecedented 718 regular-season victories, a franchise record. Haley claimed the Midwest League Manager of the Year honors in 2005, 2008 and 2013.

Other minor-league stops include the South Bend White Sox (1991-92), Sarasota White Sox, Hickory Crawdads, South Bend Silver Hawks (1995), Prince William Cannons, Winston-Salem Warthogs, Hickory Crawdads, Birmingham Barons and Great Falls White Sox.

The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Haley in the 26th round of the 1977 draft, but Haley chose to play baseball at the University of Nebraska.

Haley resides in South Bend with his wife Ann, daughter Kelli and son John-Ross.


Jennifer Fortener Accounting Manager

Jennifer joined the Performance Center in November 2015 as the Accounting Manager. She earned an undergraduate degree from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. Jennifer began her Career as a Financial Analyst with Coopers & Lybrand/PricewaterhouseCoopers in Pittsburgh, PA. She left to pursue a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Notre Dame.

After earning her degree, Jennifer worked as an Internal Auditor for the H.J. Heinz Company, based out of their Newport, KY offices for several years. She then joined Conseco in Carmel, IN as a Senior Internal Auditor and worked her way up to Assistant Vice President of Internal Audit. While working for Conseco, Jennifer earned a Master of Professional Accountancy Degree from Indiana University. Jennifer has spent several years working for small ventures while devoting time to raising her family and volunteering in her communities. Jennifer and her family relocated to South Bend in 2011.

 


Brandon Lis Performance Center Operations

The 2016 season will be Brandon's 1st season with the South Bend Cubs. He is responsible for the operations of the South Bend Cubs Performance Center. The Performance Center serves as a batting cage for the Cubs while also affording local baseball and softball players the opportunity to use the facility to improve their skills, as well.

Before coming to South Bend, he worked for the Indiana Pacers, Valparaiso University, and the Indiana High School Athletic Association. Born and raised in South Bend, he graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision and then from Valparaiso University with a Master's Degree in Sports Administration.

 

 

 

 


Stadium Operations

Peter Argueta Assistant General Manager - Operations

Peter Argueta

The 2016 season is Peter's tenth season in South Bend. Peter served as Director of Stadium Operations for the 2007-2009 seasons. He is responsible for seeing that Four Winds Field meets the highest standards in appearance, security, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety.

Prior to joining the front office team, Peter worked as the Group Sales Assistant for the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Northern League. In Gary his responsibilities included selling group and season ticket plans to continue developing the RailCats' fan base in the City of Gary and its surrounding communities. Prior to this, Peter completed two internships in Stadium and Game Day Operations with the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer and the Gary Steelheads, then of the CBA.

Peter received both his Undergraduate Degree in Sports Management (2003) and his Masters Degree in Sports Administration (2005) from Valparaiso University. He was born and raised in La Ceiba, Honduras and currently resides in Porter, Indiana, with his beautiful wife Theresa and two wonderful daughters, Marianna and Cynthia.


Kyle Jakowitsch Head Groundskeeper

Kyle Jakowitsch Kyle joined South Bend in November 2015 as the Head Groundskeeper. He graduated from Loyola University of Chicago in 2014 with a BBA in Sport Management. In 2015 he became certified in Baseball Field Management from Ohio State University. Kyle grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and played baseball throughout High School and College. Prior to joining South Bend Kyle was a part of the Chicago Cubs Grounds Crew from 2013 to 2015.

 

 

 

 

 

 


TJ Wohlever Groundskeeper

TJ WohleverTJ is originally from Las Vegas, Nevada is now in his third year with South Bend. He is in charge of making the playing surface as consistent as possible and the beautification of areas within Four Winds Field. Prior to joining the Hawks TJ played professional baseball a total of 5 seasons with the Atlanta Braves, Gary Railcats also in Australia with the Perth Heat. Before playing professional baseball he attended Western Nevada College where he majored in Business. When not on the field TJ enjoys golfing and spending time with his family. He continues to coach kids in the area at the School of Hard Knocks and Reinebold fall camp.

 

 

 

 

 


Jeremy Harper Assistant Groundskeeper

Jeremy Harper Jeremy enters the 2016 season as his second year with the South Bend Cubs, but first year as an Assistant Groundskeeper while serving as the Groundskeeper Intern last year. Jeremy will also be the Head Groundskeeper for Osceola Little League as the league and Cubs became mutual partners this past offseason.

Jeremy was raised in Elkhart, Indiana and graduated from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN earning a degree in Sport Management. He served as a Supervisor for the Intramural and Club Sports program at ISU for 3 years.

He enjoys spending time with his family and friends while also being a passionate sports fan, following just about every major sports league professional and collegiate.
