2013 Coaching Staff

Nelson Prada - Manager

Born: 2/22/76 in Maracay, VZ … Resides: Barquisimeto, VZ… Former catcher. Joined the Phillies organization for the 2013 season after spending his entire professional career - playing and managing - with the Twins. Was originally signed by Minnesota as an amateur free agent in 1995 and played four years (1995-98) before being released during spring training in 1999. Immediately began his coaching career following his release. Was Minnesota's Venezuelan Academy coordinator for three years (2001-03) and also managed the VSL team in 2001 and 2003. Spent 2004 as a coach with the Gulf Coast League Twins (R) before moving into the manager's role for the team, which he held for the next three years (2005-07). Managed for Beloit (A) the last five years (2008-12) before coming to the Phillies. Has had winning records in six of his eight seasons as a minor league manager.




Les Lancaster - Pitching Coach

Born: 4/21/62 in Dallas, TX… Resides: Dothan, AL… Former pitcher. Moves up to Williamsport (A) for 2013 after spending his first two years with the Gulf Coast League Phillies (R). Prior to joining the Phillies in 2011, Lancaster spent 11 of his previous 12 years as a manager in the independent leagues. He managed the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association (2008-10), the Reno Silver Sox of the Golden Baseball League (2005-07), Coastal Bend of the Central League (2003) and Lincoln (2001-02) and Adirondack (1999-2000) of the Northern League. In 2008, he led the Explorers to the American Association North Division 2nd Half Championship, the team's first playoff berth in six years. While in the Golden League, Lancaster made the playoffs in two out of the three seasons and won a league championship in 2006 with Reno. He also led Adirondack to a championship in 2000. In 2006, he was named Golden League Manager of the Year and, in 2000, he won Independent League Manager of the Year honors. He pitched seven years in the major leagues as both a starter and reliever with the Cubs (1987-91), Tigers (1992) and Cardinals (1993), going 41-28 with 22 saves and a 4.05 ERA. In 1989, he helped pitch Chicago to the NL Eastern Division Championship.




Lino Connell - Coach

Born: 3/12/72 in Maracaibo, VZ… Resides: Zulia, VZ… Former infielder. Played professionally for 15 years in the Angels' organization (1991-93), four different independent leagues and the Mexican League and batted a combined .297 with 85 home runs in 1,410 games. Two of his seasons (2005-06) in independent baseball were spent with the Camden Riversharks. Played his final three seasons (2008-10) overseas in the Italian Baseball League. 2013 is his second year with the Phillies. Spent last year with Lakewood (A).
