Intern, Communication Dept.
unpaid, late March-early September 2013 (one position)

The Rochester Red Wings are seeking a Communication Department Intern, who will report to Director of Communication Mark Rogoff. The internship will run from late March to early September. This is an unpaid internship.

The Communication Intern, above all else, should be a strong writer and savvy decision maker. Candidates MUST be able to work all 72 home games AND be willing to compile press clippings and write game notes on weekends when the team is on the road. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and knowledge of Twitter is mandatory. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign is preferred as well.

Candidates must have a love for baseball, a second-to-none work ethic, and be available 24/7. Candidates also should take initiative, as appropriate, without waiting for direction. Candidates should understand that every minute counts in a communication department, and that statistics, documents, and projects should be delivered in order to meet deadlines. Normal hours for days with home games are 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Normal hours for days with the team on the road are 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. See the 2013 schedule in our Schedule section. .

Responsibilities:
*Produce daily clips, searching local, regional, and national publications for Red Wings-related stories
*Compile daily stat pack, downloading stats from web site and underlining relevant information
*Produce game notes for the team, hitters, pitchers, and miscellaneous
*Distribute clips, stats, and game notes to media, front-office personnel, and uniformed personnel
*Set up press box for home games, including help with food and beverage
*Produce post-game notes, highlighting the noteworthy events from the game
*Assist in facilitating pre-game and post-game interviews with uniformed personnel
*Assist in facilitating interviews with front-office executives
*Produce press releases for all organization news, including player transactions, player awards, and promotions and initiatives
*Serve as the point person for credentials, both season-long and single-game
*Maintain records of all issued credentials
*Produce content for Twitter during all home games
*Work on statistical projects for front-office executives and uniformed personnel
*Assist in archiving photographs
*Compile and deliver visiting team media kits
*Other tasks as assigned

 

Communication Dept./Sales and Marketing Internship:
unpaid, January-April 2013 (one position)
Duties include compiling player profile/stats for website, media guide and yearbook; basic yearbook layout and sales tracking; sales proposal writing and involvement with advertising sales appointments, client interaction; pre-season Media Day, Opening Day, and game day activities including stats, press box, photo journalism. Hours are flexible, 10-12 hours a week. Above average writing skills and baseball knowledge necessary. Will include basic training in Dreamweaver/Fireworks software and MiLB.com website content management system.

Communication Dept. Internships
unpaid, home games only, April or May-August 2013 (three positions)
Duties include game day support of Communication//Website/Radio and TV broadcast departments, retrieving/formatting stats, preparing lineup/roster/statistics print pieces sold with the Red Wings Yearbook, press box set-up, game day photo journalism, website home game preview and post-game story package, opportunity for writing features and interviews. Hours are either 2:30-5 pm or 5 pm-end of game for a 7:05 p.m. game. Will also include share some duties with the Communication Dept. Intern position above. Will include basic training in Dreamweaver/Fireworks software and MiLB.com content management system. Requires strong writing and communication skills and baseball knowledge. Basic Photoshop experience a plus.
