Ports 1963 Reunion
On Saturday, May 18, the Stockton Ports will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their 1963 team's California League Championship with a pregame ceremony. The Ports will face the Bakersfield Blaze at 7:05 PM in the final game of a four-game series. The game will feature 1960s-themed post-game fireworks.
1963 Ports alumni from all over the country plan on attending, including Harry Dunlop, who served as the team's catcher, manager, and only coach. Pitcher Tim Sommer will also host a book signing for his book Beating About the Bushes. The book focuses on Minor League Baseball in the 1960s and Sommer's time spent in the Baltimore Orioles organization, the Ports' parent team at the time.
Leading up to the event, the Ports' website will feature weekly interviews and photos from 1963 Ports alumni beginning in early February. We hope that this will not only increase awareness and excitement for the event in May, but also serve as an important testament to the long and storied history of the Stockton Ports.
In addition to the 1963 team, Ports alumni from every year will be invited to take part in the festivities. Alumni Night is an annual tradition for the Ports that will be combined with the 1963 reunion in 2013.
