HWS Group

Michael Savit, Managing Partner of the HWS Group, possesses a strong background in sports marketing and promotions. For over 16 years, from 1981-1997, he worked for the Cleveland-based International Management Group (IMG), where he specialized in event management. In 1998, he and his brother, Jeffrey, a fiduciary attorney, founded HWS Group, named in honor of their late father, Herbert W. Savit, and purchased the Augusta Green Jackets of the South Atlantic League (presently the Single A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants). In 2000, the company purchased the Michigan Battlecats of the Midwest League.

As former senior vice president of IMG with principal responsibility for directing professional sports events, and as a current minor league baseball owner, Michael brings unique expertise in sports marketing to his role as managing general partner of Minor League Baseball's Mobile Bay Bears-Mobile, Alabama in the Southern League (Double AA Affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) the Modesto Nuts-Modesto, California in the California League (Single A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies), the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in Niles, Ohio (Short Season Single A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) and the Columbia Blowfish-Columbia, South Carolina (Coastal Plain League). The intention of the HWS Group has been to combine Michael's sports marketing experience with the community knowledge and baseball expertise of existing minor league franchises.

In addition to its baseball activities, HWS Group, headquartered in Wellesley, Massachusetts, manages an annual charity golf tournament, the HWS Golf Classic, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and is involved in various philanthropic endeavors in the Boston area.

A 1978 graduate of Harvard College, Michael resides in Newton, Massachusetts with his wife Jill, three children-Lauren, Matthew, and Hilary and two stepchildren-Alexander and Moriah.
