WV Power Rain Policy

WV Power Rain Policy

In the event that four and a half innings of a game are not played, your ticket can be exchanged at the box office for the same price admission to any regular season game played on these grounds during this season (based on availability).

Rainy Day Terminology

Rain Delay

A rain delay is when the game is officially delayed. Play will continue later that day. Tickets cannot be exchanged in the event of a rain delay.

Suspended/ Rain-Shortened

A game may be suspended at any point due to weather and resumed from the point of the suspension. If the game is official (four and a half innings or longer), the umpires halt play and which ever team has the lead is deemed the winner. A rain-shortened game does not need to be completed to the full nine innings.

Postponed

A postponed game is will not played due to rain or inclement weather. When this happens, the game is usually rescheduled into a double header the next time the two teams meet. In the event of a postponed game, tickets can be exchanged at the box office window for the same price admission to any regular season game played Appalachian Power Park during that current season (based on availability).

Canceled

Any game that is deemed "canceled" will not be made up during the remainder of the season. Typically, a game is considered canceled when the schedule does not permit the competing teams an opportunity to play another game against that opponent. In the event of a cancelation, tickets can be exchanged at the box office window for the same price admission to any regular season game played Appalachian Power Park during that current season (based on availability).

How It All Plays Out

If it is raining before the game…

If it is raining before the start of a game, the West Virginia Power Grounds Crew has been hard at work protecting the field against the elements. This being the case, if the rain stops before the scheduled game start time, the game will continue as planned. If the rain continues into the scheduled game time, Power management will invoke a rain delay.

If it begins to rain during the game…

If it begins to rain during the game, the West Virginia Power Grounds Crew will quickly place a large tarp across the infield. At this time, the Power front office staff will work with the team's managers, along with local weather outlets, to ascertain the immediate weather outlook. If the teams feel that the inclement weather will pass, a rain delay is put into effect. If the teams agree that the inclement weather will not pass in a reasonable amount of time, an official decision on the status of the game is announced.

If a rainout is declared after four and a half innings of baseball have been played, a game is considered "official." In this case, there will be no ticket exchanges.
