RailRiders University

Train Where the Pros Train. Join the Pros this Winter as they host a series of training camps at PNC Field; home of your Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Have the chance to use our premium indoor facilities to improve in all areas of your game and get tips from the players who have learned the best techniques. There will be three areas of professional coach training this winter including hitting, pitching and catching. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches and players (both past and current) in the league.

There are still spots open for the Winter sessions at PNC Field. Sessions are tailored to different positions, Hitting, Pitching and Catching. All sessions are available for both baseball and softball and for all age groups.

Meet the Trainers

Eddy Rodriguez Catching & Hitting Trainer
Eddy RodriguezEddy is a product of Miami University and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2006. He has played the last three seasons with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders contributing to the team's Triple-A National Championship in 2016.

Russ Canzler Hitting Trainer
Russ Canzler Russ is a Hazelton Area graduate who played 12 years of Professional Baseball, including time in the majors with the Cleveland Indians and the Tampa Bay Rays. He is a four time All-Star and the 2011 International League MVP.

Joe McCarthy Hitting Trainer
Joe McCarthy Joe went to school at the University of Virginia where he was drafted in the 5th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He is currently playing with Tampa's High-A affiliate, the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Doug Davis Hitting Trainer
Doug DavisDoug has coached baseball for 22 seasons, and was named Manager of the Syracuse Chiefs in 2006. In 2017, Doug became a bench coach for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

Andy Ashby Pitching Trainer
Andy Ashby Andy is a two-time All-Star pitcher who's career spanned 13 years. He pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies, also spending time in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Gary Ruby Pitching Trainer

Matt Wotherspoon Pitching Trainer
Matt Wotherspoon Matt was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 20th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft from University of Pittsburgh, and the New York Yankees in the 34th round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft from University of Pittsburgh.

Max Kranick Pitching Trainer
Max Kranick Max graduated from Valley View High School and was an 11th round draft choice for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He currently plays with the Gulf Coast League Pirates.

Tessa A'Hara Softball Trainer
Tessa A'Hara Tessa is a former student-athlete from Hofstra University in New York, and was a member of the softball team for four years. In her four years of playing for the Pride she played outfield and was a strong player behind the plate. Tessa is second in program history with 180 RBI's, as well as 39 career homeruns. Four time First-Team All-Region. Four Time First-Team All Colonial Athletic Association selection. She was also the first player in Hofstra history to reach 40 RBI's in each of her first three seasons.
