2018 Internships

The Charlotte Stone Crabs search each year for hardworking, goal oriented and dedicated individuals for their full-time internship program. The full-time internship program requires a commitment from January through September and the ability to work 40 hours per week, and sometimes more, for Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training and all 70 Stone Crabs home games. The full-time internship program allows you to work with both MLB and MiLB organizations, giving a solid foundation to prepare every intern to become a full-time executive in the sports industry. With hands on experience, interns will learn from different departments including Ticket Sales, Marketing, Community Relations, Stadium Operations and Merchandise.

Ticket Sales

As a successful Sales Intern, your main responsibility is to provide support in sales-related areas of the business for both Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training and the Charlotte Stone Crabs. The internship runs from January to September of 2018.

  • Sell tickets at several levels (Group, Mini, Season and Individual)

  • Ability to manage customer database

  • Sell via outbound calls and face to face meetings

  • Assist in community relations efforts

  • Fill in as mascot as needed

  • Work in the Box Office on game days and non-game days

  • Perform all game day duties as assigned

  • Assist in any other tasks assigned

Additionally, you'll gain valuable experience in the baseball industry, with full training provided and the opportunity to work closely with all members of the Stone Crabs Front Office.

Community Relations/Mascot

The Community Relations/Mascot interns' main responsibility is to actively find ways to expand the Stone Crabs' brand in the community while also being the face of the team! The Community Relations/Mascot intern will perform as the Stone Crabs mascot, Clawford, at community events and during all 70 Stone Crabs games and research events for players/staff to attend to promote games. The internship runs from January to September of 2018.

  • Perform as Clawford, the Stone Crabs mascot at community events & during Stone Crabs season

  • Research community events for staff/players/mascot to attend prior to and during the season to promote Spring Training and Stone Crabs.

  • Assist with the Stone Crabs Reading Club that reaches over 20 local schools and 15,000 students

  • Fulfill donation requests for events in the community

  • Assist in the planning, registration and execution of Stone Crabs Youth Baseball Camp

  • Assist in other tasks as assigned

Gain valuable experience in the baseball industry, with a first-class organization. Full training is provided and you'll have the opportunity to work closely with all members of the Stone Crabs Front Office.

Merchandise & Marketing

As a Merchandise Sales & Marketing intern for the Charlotte Stone Crabs, you will help in all aspects of merchandise while also assisting in the marketing department. This includes working the team store, receiving merchandise, inventory and display of merchandise. In addition, you will also help will on-field entertainment in Spring Training, create promotional materials and assist in the execution of theme nights and events. The internship runs from January to September of 2018.

  • Promote and sell all Stone Crabs merchandise

  • Work in the team store on Stone Crabs game days

  • Handle inventory and display of merchandise

  • Monitor and fulfill online orders of merchandise

  • Maintain online store with current inventory

  • Assist in project management of theme/target nights

  • On-field game day entertainment & operations for Rays Spring Training

  • Aid in the sales process by creating promotional materials

  • Assist in community appearances

  • Perform as mascot when necessary

  • Assist all other departments when needed

Stadium Operations

As our Stadium Operations Intern, you will report to the Food/Beverage and Operations Managers and assist in the following tasks during the Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training and Charlotte Stone Crabs Florida State League season:

  • Assist in the set up of advertising signs

  • Help in the execution of all picnics and suites from set up to breakdown

  • Schedule and track seasonal employees, including hours worked, and assist in training of seasonal staff

  • Maintain the policies of the stadium in regards to customer service and other ballpark issues

  • Support Food/Beverage and Operations with any other game day or non-game day tasks

This position will provide you with a clear picture of the overall operations during a major league spring training and minor league baseball season. Additionally, you will gain valuable experience in the baseball industry, with full training provided and the opportunity to work closely with the entire Stone Crabs front office staff. The internship runs from January to September of 2018.

Creative/Video Production

The Creative/Video Production intern is responsible for all video production for the Stone Crabs. Videos & graphics are created for social medial and the video board to be used during games or other stadium events to provide the best fan experience. This position is also responsible for the day-to-day operation of the control room and will work with game-day staff in the press box. Must be a motivated individual that isn't afraid to be a self-starter, share new ideas and most importantly - have fun!

Responsibilities

  • Film, edit and create promotional video content for use on social media and videoboard.

  • Design/update templates for videoboard line scores, team headshots and other various collateral to keep material new and sharp for both Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training and Charlotte Stone Crabs season.

  • Assist in the creation of graphic design material for use on team website, social media and videoboard.

  • Produce the in-game show from the press box, working with the PA announcer and Director of Marketing to ensure pre-game and in-game events run smoothly during Spring Training & Stone Crabs season.

  • Lead player interviews and video questionnaire's during Stone Crabs media day

  • Assist the Director of Marketing and other front office staff as needed, with designing flyers and graphics for upcoming stadium and game promotions

  • Coordinate with the Media Relations manager and work with the Stone Crabs players and coaching staff on promotional content for the video board, in-game entertainment, and social media.

  • Assist in the delivery of Stone Crabs pocket schedules to local businesses and organizations.

  • Dress as the team mascot as needed for community events.

  • Attend community events regularly to spread brand awareness and promote upcoming games/events.

  • Assist in the management and content creation of social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)

  • Other duties assigned by General Manager, Asst. General Manager & Director of Marketing

Prior sports experience preferred. Experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe After Effects. Experience managing social media accounts with 5,000+ followers. Experience with Daktronics equipment (Dakstats, Show Control). Motivation and drive to learn in a fast-paced environment. Ability to be a self-starter and come up with new ideas to get fans to the ballpark & create the ideal fan experience.
