Five Errors Doom 'Hounds 05/16/2009 12:06 AM ETBy Bob Hards / Midland RockHounds
There are certain things you should never see at a baseball game. One of those might be a line score reading "3-4-5," as in three runs, four hits, five errors. That, unfortunately, was the RockHounds' final line on the scoreboard at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio Friday night, with the Missions defeating the 'Hounds, 9-3. Making matters worse, the "5" under the error column was there for most of the game. Three first-inning miscues and two more in the third led to a 4-0 San Antonio lead, and the Missions busted it open with a 5-run fourth for a 9-0 advantage. Something else you should not ... and almost never do ... see is a team leaving thirty (30) men left on base in two games and winning both times. San Antonio left 11 runners on base Friday after stranding 19 in Thursday's 10-inning game, but came away with a victory both nights. Halftime! Friday's game was # 35 of the 70-game first half pennant race (Frisco and Corpus Christi have a rainout to make up), and the Texas League South Division is now tight as can be at the halfway mark (see standings, above). The RockHounds and Missions complete their series Saturday night, followed by a (rare) league-wide off day Sunday. The 'Hounds will look for a series split in Saturday's wrap-up before opening a 4-game set at Frisco Monday night.
