Cramer Dominates As Hounds Win
06/06/2009 11:46 PM ET
A few months before Bobby Cramer's first stint with the RockHounds, in 2007, he was substitute teaching at an Orange County, California high school. Saturday night, he "schooled" the Tulsa Drillers, winning a terrific pitcher's duel with Samuel Deduno as the 'Hounds defeated the Drillers, 2-1, in front of 5,298 fans on fireworks night at Citibank Ballpark.

Cramer went 8.0 innings, allowing just one run, and that run was unearned. He allowed five hits, walking two and whiffing five. Bobby also helped his own cause with a tremendous defensive play, fielding a Rex Rundgren bunt and making an off-balance throw home to deny a Drillers scoring opportunity.

Archie Gilbert extended his hit streak to 10 games with a leadoff double in the third inning, and Josh Horton drove him in with an RBI single. Horton later came home on Josh Donaldson's ground out, scoring what would be the winning run.

Sam Demel closed the game in the ninth, earning his ninth save in 10 chances. The former TCU star gave up a 2-out bloop single, then came right back and struck out Tulsa's Brad Corley to end the game.

Tulsa came into the game the hottest team in the Texas League, with a 5-game win streak. The Drillers had just swept a 3-game series at Frisco, allowing the RoughRiders just two runs in the three games.

Texas League South The San Antonio Missions and Corpus Christi Hooks were winners Saturday night, but Frisco fell for the fourth straight night at home. The RockHounds lead remains four over San Antonio, and is now six over Frisco with Corpus Christi seven back. The RockHounds and Missions have 16 games remaining in the first half pennant race; Frisco and Corpus have 18.
