'Topes' "Haitian Relief Pitch" Raises $19,000!01/21/2010 9:29 PM ET
When asked for help to aid victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Albuquerque responded emphatically, contributing $19,015.65 as part of the "Haitian Relief Pitch" Friday at Isotopes Park. Over the course of six hours, more than 484 cars came through the drive-thru fundraiser, which was hosted by the Albuquerque Isotopes, Citadel Broadcasting Company, and the American Red Cross.
Contributions ranged from a few dollars to a check for $1,000 as people throughout the Duke City took time out of their busy day to donate to the great cause. Proceeds from the fundraiser go directly to the Red Cross, which is spearheading relief efforts in Haiti, where nearly 3-million people are still in need of emergency aid.
"The generosity of the people of Albuquerque is truly amazing," said Isotopes General Manager John Traub. "We were overwhelmed by the response of the community and we offer our profound thanks to everyone who took the time to come down to Isotopes Park and donate."
On-air personalities from each of five Citadel stations (770 KKOB, 93.3 KOB-FM, 92.3 KRST, 99.5 Magic FM, and 610 The Sports Animal) as well as the Isotopes' loveable mascot Orbit and volunteers from the Red Cross were on hand throughout the afternoon, collecting donations and distributing gift packs including a voucher for a free Isotopes ticket and raffle tickets good for a number of great prizes from Citadel such as merchandise, gift certificates, and ski vacations. Rex's Hamburgers was also present to keep the volunteers well fed and contribute to what was a festive atmosphere at The Lab all afternoon.
If you still want to donate, please visit the American Red Cross web site, www.redcross.org.
