Columbus, GA - Right hander Jesse Darcy was recently named the Rays Minor League Pitcher of the Month for June. Darcy is the first Catfish pitcher and second Catfish to be recognized by the Rays organization. Outfielder Emeel Salem was named the Rays Minor League Player of the Month for April after stealing a professional baseball high 21 stolen bases in the month. Montgomery third-basemen Chris Nowak was named the Minor League Player of the Month for June.
Darcy, a 23 year old out of Manhattan College, was a 38th round choice in the 2007 June Draft. He began the season as a reliever before moving to the starting rotation full time on May 24. Darcy was dominant in June, going 4-0 with a 1.53 ERA with 20 strikeouts and 4 walks in 29 and 1/3 innings while holding opponents to a .237 average. He opened June with a 16 and 2/3 inning streak without allowing an earned run and his 4 wins were a team high for the month as the Catfish went 16-10 in June. On the season, Darcy is 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA and has recorded 62 strikeouts and 11 walks in 82 innings.
The Catfish return to action tonight for the 2nd game of an 8-game homestand with a 7:00 pm contest against the Kannapolis Intimidators.
