Columbus, GA - The South Atlantic League has named their players of the week for the week of July 28th through August 3rd and Catfish third-basemen Greg Sexton was named the Hitter of the Week. Madison Bumgarner of Augusta and Alejandro Sanabia of Greensboro split Pitcher of the Week honors.
Sexton, a 23 year old, will be receiving his first South Atlantic League honor and it is very well deserved. Sexton is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, tied with Maiko Loyola for the Catfish season-high, and was a one-man wrecking crew last week. Sexton went 9-25 (.360) with 2 doubles, 3 home runs and 12 runs batted in. Sexton's home runs all came at big times, as he hit a 3-run home run against Augusta on July 29th which proved to be the go-ahead hit, a walk-off game winning 3-run home run on July 31st against Augusta to give the Catfish the season series and a grand slam on August 3rd against Asheville to blow the game wide open. For the season, Sexton is hitting .298 with 30 doubles, 5 home runs and 67 runs batted in.
The Catfish will play their 3rd game of a 4 game series against Asheville before traveling to Savannah for a 4-game set. The Catfish return home on Monday, August 11th to host the Lake County Captains, the Cleveland Indians affiliate who won the Northern Division in the 1st half and who used to be known as the Columbus RedStixx. The Catfish and Captains are slated to begin at 7:00.
The Catfish are the Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
