STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports are pleased to announce that Yusuf Carter will represent the team at this year's California-Carolina League All-Star Game, which will be held on June 23 at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore, Calif.

Carter, who is batting .325 (37x114) with five doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI in 29 games, will be making his first California League All-Star team. He will fill the position of back-up catcher on the 23-man squad. Carter, the nephew of former major leaguer Joe Carter, currently leads the Stockton Ports in batting average and is fifth on the team in RBI.

"We are excited to have Yusuf represent the team in the upcoming All-Star Game," said Ports President and General Manager Pat Filippone. "He has been having a terrific season with us so far, and we hope he enjoys the All-Star experience."

Carter had a 10-game hitting streak from May 8 to May 21 this season, batting .400 (16x40) in that span. It was the third-longest hitting streak by a Ports player in 2009. Carter has not committed an error in 14 games as a catcher, and holds a .948 fielding percentage in eight games as a first baseman. He has also served as a designated hitter this season.

Carter was selected by Oakland in the Triple-A portion of the Rule 5 Draft in December 2008. Prior to that, he spent four seasons in the Chicago Cubs organization. He was drafted in the 12th round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.
