Rattlers Alumni Report 4/18 04/18/2008 4:45 PM ETBy Jay Grusznski / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
Lots of stuff going on in this edition, plenty of transactions from the end of spring training, a look at last season's Timber Rattlers whereabouts, T-Rats and Foxes in the Majors, and the return of Hot 'N Cold, plus: Chris Snelling is back! Seattle
released RHP Mike Hrynio ('04), OF Casey Craig ('06), RHP Chad Fillinger ('04), C Juan
Beltran ('07), SS Eriberto Menchaca ('02) Traded C Jair Fernandez ('07) to Minnesota for the Twins refusal to return Rule 5 draftee RHP R.A. Dickey Placed RHP J.J. Putz ('00) on the 15-day DL
Eriberto "Eddie" Menchaca, who has not played since 2005, will be the hitting coach down in Peoria for the Arizona League Mariners. Kahn has a knee injury, Dilone is still recovering from an arm injury suffered with the Rattlers last season that required Tommy John surgery, and Gallagher will miss around two months after bone spur surgery. Putz is close to returning to the Mariners after suffering a rib cage injury. Ketchner returns to the team that drafted him four years after being traded away to the Dodgers. Fernandez was dealt to the Twins as a "bribe" for them to allow the Mariners to keep Dickey in the minors. Cleveland placed OF Shin-Soo Choo ('01,'02) on the 15-day DL, retroactive to March 21 Choo is recovering from Tommy John surgery. Lopez has appeared in 6 games so far for the
Tigers, compiling a 0.73 ERA over 12.1 innings The Braves closer is suffering from elbow tendinitis but hopes to be back by the end of the month. Florida Marlins placed C Dan Santin ('07) on minor league DL Santin hit .264 for Greensboro last year after being traded to the Marlins for current Rattlers catcher Blake Ochoa. Philadelphia recalled OF Chris Snelling ('00) from Lehigh Valley (IL) In only his second at bat after being called up,
Snelling hit a pinch hit home run off Astros closer Jose Valverde to start a
Phillies rally. Pineiro was not sharp in his first start coming off the DL, allowing 10 hits and 6 runs in just 3 2/3 innings. Milwaukee placed RHP Juan Sandoval ('03) on restricted list The restricted list is kind of a catch-all in the
minors, with reasons to be on it ranging from suspension to the most common
reason, a player has left the team to ponder retirement. Not exactly sure
why Sandoval is on the list, but I would guess it is to think about his future. Baltimore is trying to load up on former T-Rats
with the acquisition of Garciaparra to go along with the previous trade for
Chris Tillman, Tony Butler, and Adam Jones. Fulse hit .263 at two stops in the Nationals chain during the 2007 season. Northern League Craig quickly found a job following his release from the Mariners. Mathis has been with the Redhawks for the past five seasons and put up some big numbers. American Association Hintz is playing musical chairs in the independent leagues, bouncing from town to town. Beau had success pitching with Fort Worth in the AA last season, so hopefully this is a good fit. Golden Baseball League Arroyo was forced to look for a new job following the collapse of the South Coast League, where Carlos hit .305 for Macon in 2007. American Association Langdon joins his third team and league in three years after he spent the 2006 season with Evansville of the Frontier League and the 2007 season with North Shore of the CanAm League. American Association A fourth round pick by the Mariners in 2003, Fagan will now try his luck in the independent leagues. United League This will be the fifth different independent league Balbuena has pitched for in the last seven seasons.
