TROY, N.Y. - On Monday afternoon, the Tri-City ValleyCats announced the winner of its weatherman bobblehead promotion. At a press conference at the Holiday Inn Express in Downtown Albany, Steve Caporizzo, meteorologist for News 10, accepted the honor of being immortalized as a ValleyCats bobblehead on August 22. The ValleyCats donated $500 to a charity of his choice, the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society.

For three weeks, members of the Capital Region logged onto www.tcvalleycats.com to cast their vote for their choice of meteorologist to become a Tri-City ValleyCats bobblehead. Nearly 12,000 votes were tallied for four local weathermen, Neal Estano from WRGB, Caporizzo from WTEN, Bob Kovachick from WNYT and Steve Teeling representing FOX 23.

The ValleyCats weatherman bobblehead promotion kicked off voting on Monday, March 9 and commenced on Wednesday, April 1. ValleyCats fans and weather watchers cast 11,839 votes over the three week-long contest. The first 1,500 fans on August 22 will receive a bobblehead in Caporizzo's likeness, presented by the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Albany.

"I would like to thank the ValleyCats and everyone who voted," said Caporizzo. "It is fun to be a bobblehead, but it is going to be great to help out homeless animals." Caporizzo tripled the donation to the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society to $1,500 on behalf of The Pet Connection.

Murphy and Holiday Inn Express co-owner Tom Russo presented a check to Caporizzo and Brad Shear, executive director of the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society. Shear, was accompanied by Bubba, an Akita, looking for a new home.

The ValleyCats weatherman bobblehead is just one of many entertainment-filled evenings the ValleyCats are hosting during the 2009 season. The ValleyCats home opener is Saturday, June 20 against the Oneonta Tigers. For more information on the ValleyCats and its 2009 promotions, please visit www.tcvalleycats.com.
