E-Twins on brink of Appy League repeat08/28/2008 10:10 PM ET
The Elizabethton Twins moved halfway to a repeat as Appalachian League champions with a 7-4 win over the upstart Pulaski Mariners on Thursday night.
Nick Romero cranked a ground-rule two-RBI double in the second inning and added a sacrifice fly in the sixth for Elizabethton. Evan Bigley connected on a solo homer in the ninth and plated a run with a two-bagger in the first.
The Mariners rallied for four runs in the fourth and fifth on the strength of doubles by Kris Sanchez, Jose Rivero and Michael Harrington.
The Twins dethroned the Danville Braves as Appy champs last season. Elizabethton also took the crown in 2005.
Pulaski, which didn't field a team last year, returned to the Appy League in '08 as an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
