Volcanoes clinch Northwest League West08/21/2007 1:23 AM ET

Jared Cranston hurled five shutout innings as Salem-Keizer clinched the Northwest League's North Division title with a 5-1 win over host Yakima on Monday.
Cranston (3-1) yielded four hits and a walk while fanning seven. The 22-year-old left-hander, who gave up one hit over six scoreless innings in his previous start, lowered his ERA to 2.45 over 10 appearances with the Volcanoes (48-12).
Sean VanElderen hit a solo homer, his fifth, in the second and Brock Bond went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for Salem-Keizer. Matthew Downs had an RBI single in the fourth to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.
Bears starter Chase Christianson (4-5) gave up four runs -- one earned -- on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts over seven frames for his second straight loss.
Joseph Batten walked and scored on Konrad Schmidt's sixth-inning single for Yakima (25-35).
