NEW YORK -- The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that five Minor League players have received 50-game suspensions after each tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. All five players are currently in the Dominican Summer League, a Rookie-level circuit. Oakland pitchers Alexis Juma and Alex Nolasco were suspended after testing positive for boldenone. Angels pitcher Renedin Mesa also tested positive for boldenone. Phillies farmhands Joan Pascual, a pitcher, and Jose Trinidad, an outfielder, each tested positive for stanozolol. All suspensions are effective immediately. Major League Baseball has suspended 30 Minor League players for performance-enhancing substance violations this season.
