Litsch, Blue Jays stay alive
09/07/2006 3:21 AM ET
Jesse Litsch tossed five solid innings Wednesday as the Dunedin Blue Jays edged the Fort Myers Miracle, 4-3, to force a decisive third game in their Florida State League playoff series.

Litsch (1-0) allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out four. Daniel Core pitched a scoreless sixth before yielding two runs without recording an out in the seventh. T.J. Gornati set down all six batters he faced and gave way to Connor Falkenbach for the ninth.

Falkenbach recorded two outs before giving up a single to Trevor Plouffe, who was picked off first by catcher Robinzon Diaz to end the game and give Falkenbach his first postseason save. The play occurred after slugger David Winfree swung and missed on a 2-0 pitch. Winfree, who had 13 homers this season, got the Miracle on the board in the fourth with a leadoff blast.

The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the second on Christian Snavely's two-run single. Juan Peralta and Eric Nielsen added RBI singles for Dunedin.

Caleb Moore belted an RBI triple and scored on Brandon Roberts' single in the seventh to bring Fort Myers within a run.

Miracle starter Oswaldo Sosa (0-1) surrendered three runs on four hits in five innings, striking out three and walking three. Jose Mijares gave up one run in the sixth before J.P. Martinez blanked the Blue Jays over the final two frames.

The teams will decide the series at Knology Park on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. The winner faces East Division champion St. Lucie in the FSL finals, beginning Friday.
