Bocock doubles Giants' pleasure
09/19/2009 1:53 AM ET
Brian Bocock homered after delivering a go-ahead bases-loaded double Friday as the San Jose Giants held off the High Desert Mavericks, 7-5, to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-5 California League Championship Series.

Bocock was hitting .188 in his first six playoff games but cleared the bases in the fourth inning to snap a 1-1 tie. The Mavericks climbed within 5-3 in the seventh, but Bocock and Johnny Monell hit back-to-back blasts to pad San Jose's lead.

The 24-year-old shortstop also started two crucial double plays, one in the fifth to get starter Paul Oseguera (1-0) out of a jam, the other in the eighth with the tying run at the plate.

Oseguera pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Daniel Turpin earned his second postseason save, fanning one and working around two hits over two scoreless frames.

Francisco Peguero had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice for the Giants, who can wrap up their third title in five years on Saturday in San Jose.

Mavericks starter Mauricio Robles (1-1) did not survive the fifth inning, giving up five runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts.

Travis Scott had three hits and scored twice, while Kuo Hui Lo tripled, scored one run and drove in another for High Desert.
