Comments
Fastball:Adkins threw his fastball in the 88-92 mph range.
Slider:This is Adkins's out pitch. In his start vs. Florida State, it was a plus, plus pitch.
Control:Adkins relies on control and command of his pitches to keep hitters off-balance.
Physical Description:Big college lefty.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Terrific command and a slider that is off-the-charts.
Weaknesses:Stuff. He's mostly a two-pitch pitcher right now, with only the slider grading out as above-average.
Summary:Adkins put himself on the map with a very strong season debut, but had mixed results as the season wore on. He picked it up by carrying a no-hitter into the eighth inning of his SEC Tournament start. He pitches backwards, off of his plus breaking stuff rather than off of his fastball, something that he’ll probably learn to reverse as a pro. Whether he's a starter in the future remains to be seen, but with his slider, he at the very least has a future as a lefty specialist out of the bullpen.
