Fastball:Duffy threw his fastball anywhere in the 86-92 mph range and it sat comfortably at 87-89 mph. In later starts this year, he's been clocked as high as 94.
FB Movement:Duffy gets the typical arm-side run on his fastball many lefties get, but he also can get the ball in on right-handed hitters.
Curve:Duffy throws his curve in the 70-73 mph range. He's able to throw it for strikes fairly consistently. He does get under it at times and it comes in flat.
Changeup:He has a good feel for a changeup. He didn't throw it often early on, but he's mixing it in more frequently now and it has the chance to be a plus pitch.
Slider:Duffy didn't show a slider early in the year, but has added it lately and it might be his best pitch. He throws it at 78-79 mph with late bite. It has the chance to be a true strikeout pitch.
Control:Most of the time, Duffy is able to pound the strike zone, pitches to contact. At times, he tries to do too much and loses command, leading to walks.
Poise:A confident pitcher, he does get too emotional on the mound at times. He then tries to do too much and not stay with his strengths.
Physical Description:He's a strong, durable lefty with a strong lower half and room to fill out in the upper half. He kind of fits a Scott Olsen or Mark Buehrle mold.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Duffy has a good understanding of how to pitch and what he needs to do to get outs. He's able to run his fastball in on both lefties and righties and he's not afraid to come inside.
Weaknesses:When he tries to do too much, he loses command and gets away from what works best for him. In that regard, his emotions get the better of him at times.
Summary:Duffy is another in a deep pool of high school lefties, but he had done a lot to stand out in his senior season. With a projectable body, an average fastball with good movement, two breaking pitches and a good feel for a change, Duffy has the chance to be a lefty not only with a good feel for pitching but a guy who brings a four-pitch mix to the table.
