Comments
Hitting Ability:Strong left-handed hitter with power potential. Great bat speed with good extension. Hittability is a litte below average with a swing that sometimes can be a little stiff.
Power:Jones has above-average power potential. He put on a show hitting with wood during BP, then showed power in the game as well.
Running Speed:The football star is a well above-average runner.
Arm Strength:Also a pitcher, Jones' outfield arm grades out as average.
Fielding:Right now, Jones is a center fielder and plays there well. As he develops, he'd likely move to a corner OF spot.
Range:His range is average or a tick above average. That could decrease as he continues to grow.
Baseball Instinct:Like many two-sport stars, Jones is a little raw. His overall instincts on the diamond are a touch below average.
Aggressiveness:Jones' football mentality provides an aggressive approach on the baseball field.
Physical Description:Jones is a tremendously athletic outfielder, a physical specimen who was a top defensive back in football.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Power-speed combination. Good makeup, excellent athlete. High ceiling.
Weaknesses:His baseball skills are still quite raw. He's played a lot of baseball -- including in some showcases -- but his overall approach (discipline, patience) needs refinement. With a slightly stiff swing, he pulls off the ball at times.
Summary:As perhaps the top defensive back recruit in the country, Jones has signed to play football at LSU next fall. His baseball tools would make any scout interested and he is perhaps the ultimate high risk-high reward kind of draftee.
