Focus Area
Fastball:Peavey throws his fastball in the 88-91 mph range.
FB Movement:His fastball has pretty good life with some sink, though it's not a heavy sinker.
Curve:Peavey has thrown a curve at 75-77 mph in the past, but didn't show it in this outing.
Slider:Peavey threw his slider at 79-81 mph. He's thrown it at 82-84 mph in the past and it has a hard, vertical break, making some think it's a hard curve. It has the potential to be a power out pitch in the future.
Control:Peavey has excellent command for his age, especially considering he uses a delivery with maximum effort to it. He has a good feel for pitching.
Poise:Peavey is very mature and experienced. He handles himself like a professional on the mound and is always in control.
Physical Description:Peavey is a decent-sized right-hander with limited room for growth and projection.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Peavey has a live, fast arm with good life on his fastball. He's got an advanced feel for pitching and his slider has the potential to be a plus out pitch.
Weaknesses:He's got some effort to his delivery, which puts extra stress on his arm. He's been throwing this way for years and there is some concern over his durability. He also hasn't shown the ability to throw a changeup consistently.
Summary:Peavey has been on radar screens for several years and while scouts like his arm and pitchability, he hasn't developed much since his freshman year. The violence in his delivery has some concerned and the lack of a changeup has some thinking he's bound for a bullpen role in the future.
