Focus Area
Fastball:Price was sitting at 90-94 mph and touched 95 mph.
FB Movement:His fastball had good tailing action away from right-handed hitters.
Slider:Price's slider sat at 84-86 mph and was effective with two-strike counts. He backs it up with a 78-79 mph slurve.
Changeup:Definitely Price's third pitch, a work in progress. He occasionally drops his arm angle when throwing it.
Control:Price struggled with his control in the early innings, walking three in 5 2/3 IP. He needs to improve command within the strike zone.
Poise:Although fielding errors and mental mistakes allowed Rice to jump out to an early 2-0 lead, Price rebounded and pitched well enough to keep the Commodores in the game. Price began to settle down as the game progressed, and dominated the middle innings, striking out four out of the last five batters he faced before leaving the game in the sixth.
Physical Description:Big, athletic left-hander with top of the rotation potential.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Athleticism, overpowering stuff, two plus pitches, outstanding makeup.
Weaknesses:Command within strike zone. Problems occur when he falls out of his mechanics. He needs better direction to plate with his front leg at times.
Summary:Overall, a good outing for Price, particularly considering it was his first outing of the season against the then-No. 1 ranked team in college baseball. His stuff has been better, but it was a solid performance.
