Focus Area
Comments
Hitting Ability:A left-handed hitter batting from a little crouch, Jefferies has been spraying line drives all over the place all year and rarely strikes out.
Power:Focused more on making contact right now, with his size it does look like there is room for some pop down the line.
Running Speed:He runs better than many catchers, but would probably grade out as a tick below average.
Base running:He's pretty good on the bases and will even steal a base here and there. He's not the kind of catcher you'll have to pinch-run for late in games.
Arm Strength:It's fringy and might be average at best. He won't stop a running game cold, but people also won't run wild on him.
Fielding:He's shown improvement, receiving the ball well and providing a good target for his pitchers.
Range:He moves pretty well behind the plate and blocks balls well.
Physical Description:Jefferies is a big, strong backstop.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Excellent contact hitter, decent defensive catcher.
Weaknesses:His arm. It's fringy and likely what will keep him from being drafted higher.
Summary:Not on the map to start the season, Jefferies has had a tremendous junior campaign and has been steadily moving up the ladder all year. A terrific contact hitter who almost never strikes out, he hasn't shown much power. Defensively, he's pretty good, though the arm is fringy. Whichever team sees more arm or more power in the future will likely be the one to take him.
