Focus Area
Comments
Hitting Ability:He's been inconsistent in past, struggling against better pitching in schowcases, but he's shown enough glimpses to keep you interested.
Power:He's got plus, plus raw power, especially to the pull side, but hasn't always shown it in games.
Running Speed:He's a bit of a lumberer, looking like a first baseman in terms of speed.
Base running:He's got good instincts and manages to steal bases.
Arm Strength:It's close to plus; as a pitcher, he's touched 92 mph on the mound.
Fielding:He's got good footwork and decent hands at third.
Range:He doesn't have a ton of range, but he shows some athleticsm in short bursts.
Physical Description:Oropesa has a well put together body, with muscular legs and forearms, broad shoulders. He's fairly physically mature already.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:His plus, plus raw power from the left side of the plate.
Weaknesses:He hasn't shown enough consistent hitting ability to get to that power in game situations.
Summary:On the scene as both a hitter and a pitcher, he does have abilities in both areas. It seemed more were leaning towards seeing him as a power-hitting corner infielder than on the mound at the next level. He's got as much raw power as just about any high school hitter; it's just a matter of him making enough consistent contact to get to that power in games. He's OK at third, with some thinking he's destined to first, but it's that bat that will get him drafted.
