Texas League playoff procedures

Sec. 22 The Texas League playoffs must commence not later than the second day after the close of the regularly scheduled championship season. After the start of the first round of the playoffs, League playoffs will be limited to 12 days in length. In the event of a tie at the end of the above limit, one day may be added with the permission of the President of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues.

a. The Texas League Championship Series shall be decided by a best of five (5) game series. The first two (2) games will be played in odd numbered years in the South Division city, with the remaining games being played in the North Division city. In the even numbered years, the first two (2) games will be played in the North Division city with the remaining games played in the South Division city. There shall be one travel day between the Division Playoffs and the Championship Series and one travel day within the Championship Series when the teams change cities.

b. In the post-season, the schedule of a division series or the championship series is in the sole hands of the League President. No game may be postponed or canceled without the approval of the President of this League.

c. The Divisional Playoffs shall be decided by a best of five (5) game series played in up to five (5) consecutive days. The first half season winner will host the first two (2) games of the Divisional Playoffs with the remaining games played in the city of the second half winner.

i. In the event of a percentage tie in the first half season, the championship of that season will be broken by the outcome of the first scheduled game played between the two teams in the second half, with that game also being counted in the second half standings.

  • aa. In the event of a percentage tie between three teams in the first half season, the championship of that half season will be broken by games played between the tied teams in the second half. Two teams will meet on the first date of the second half season. The winner of that game will face the third tied team to determine the first half championship of their division, with the losing team being eliminated from further consideration. The remaining two teams will determine the first half division championship during the first game of their next regularly scheduled series, the winner being declared the first half champion. The results of games played in the second half to determine the first half championship will also count in the second half standings.
ii. In the event of a percentage tie in the second half season, the championship of that season will be determined in the following manner:

  • aa. By the win-lost record between the two teams involved in that half season.

  • cc. If the teams remain tied, the team with the better win-lost record over the entire season will be declared the champion.
  • dd. If the teams remain tied, then the team with the better record within their division over the entire season will be declared the champion.
  • ee. In the event the two teams involved are still tied, a sudden death game will be played on the first open day after the close of the regular season to determine the second half season champion. If there is a disagreement as to the playing site of this game, it will be determined by the flip of a coin by the President of this League.
iii. In the event of a percentage tie between three teams in the second half season, the tie will be broken using the following tie-breakers:

Games three and four, if necessary, shall be played in the city of the club qualifying for the Division Series as the opponent for the winner of both half seasons.
