International League playoff procedures

Tie-breaking procedures

(a) If a division or the wild card race should end in a tie or ties, such tie or ties shall be played off as prescribed herein so that the playoff participants may be determined and the schedule of games in the Governors' Cup Series arranged accordingly.

(b) When two (2) teams finish the regular season in a tie for first place within their division and both will advance, the teams will be considered division co-champions and the tiebreaker format detailed in this Section 2(b) will be used to determine which team enters as the division champion and which will enter as the wild card team. If only one (1) team will advance to the Governors' Cup Playoffs the teams shall play one (1) game the next day to determine their final standing. The additional game shall be considered an extension of the regular championship season and will therefore count in a team's winning percentage toward the wild card position. The team with the most wins in the head-to-head season series shall determine the city where the game is to be played. If the two (2) teams should be tied, the team with the highest winning percentage during intradivisional play shall make the determination. Should the teams possess the same winning percentage the team with the highest winning percentage against the other two division winners shall make the determination. Should the teams possess the same winning percentage the team with the greatest differential between runs scored and runs allowed during the regular season shall make the determination. Should the runs differential be tied the President of the league will toss a coin to determine the team which will make the decision.

(c) The wild card team will be the non-division winning team with the highest winning percentage. Any tie in the standings for the wild card position will be broken by the following criteria and not "play-in" games. The team to advance will be the team with the most wins in the head-to-head season series between all tied teams. Should teams remain tied, the team with the highest winning percentage during intradivisional play shall advance. Should teams possess the same winning percentage the team with the highest winning percentage against the three division winners shall advance. Should the remaining tied teams possess the same winning percentage against the division winners the team with the greatest differential between runs scored and runs allowed during the regular season shall make the determination. Should the runs differential be tied the President of the league will toss a coin to determine the team which will advance.

(d) Should a tie in the standings exist which involves more than two (2) teams with two (2) teams to advance, the tie will be resolved by applying the tiebreaker criteria to first determine the division champion.
