Playoff Procedures

Gulf Coast League playoff procedures


Playoff format

  • First Round — One Game
    • The division winner with the best record plays the division winner with the lowest record.
      1. Should the Northeast and Northwest Divisions finish 1st and 4th, the semi-final matchups would place 1st vs. 3rd and 2nd vs. 4th.
    • The other two division winners.
    • The higher seeded team is the home team.
  • Finals — Best of Three
    • Games One and Three at higher seeded team
    • Game Two at lower winning percentage team

Playoff Tiebreakers

  • Note that winning percentage determines the overall winner, division winners and wild card.
  • To determine the best overall winning percentage between separate division winners, (no game would be played):
    • Tie involving two or more teams from different divisions:
      1. 1. Average runs allowed per game
      2. 2. Average runs scored per game
      3. 3. Best run differential
  • To determine a division winner:
    • Tie involving two teams:
      1. The two teams will meet in a one game sudden death playoff to determine the division winner. A coin toss will decide the home team.
    • Tie involving more than two teams (no game would be played):
      1. 1. Average runs allowed per game
      2. 2. Average runs scored per game
      3. 3. Best run differential
