Orioles' Bundy officially shut down in AFL

Club's No. 2 prospect out with forearm strain after just two starts
November 11, 2015

Dylan Bundy's 2015 season has come to a premature end for a second time.

Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said Wednesday that Bundy won't make another start in the Arizona Fall League due to a muscle strain in his right forearm, according to MLB.com Orioles reporter Brittany Ghiroli.

The 22-year-old right-hander was scratched from making his third AFL start Monday because of what was being called at the time right elbow stiffness. With Wednesday's news, that means Bundy tossed only two innings during his brief stint in baseball's prospect finishing school. He needed only seven pitches to complete a perfect frame in his debut for Peoria on Nov. 2 and allowed one run on two hits in another one-inning start -- this one requiring 19 pitches -- on Nov. 6. After that first start, Bundy told the MiLB.com podcast how much he was looking forward to entering the offseason on a healthy note.

Bundy was in the AFL to make up for the innings he lost over the summer due to a right shoulder strain. He tossed only 22 innings for Double-A Bowie in the first two months of the season before hitting the disabled list on May 28. The fourth overall pick in the 2011 Draft, the Oklahoma native underwent Tommy John surgery early in 2013 and was limited to only 41 1/3 frames in 2014 as a result.

Because Bundy made his Major League debut for the Orioles in 2012, he will enter the 2016 Major League campaign officially out of options and will need to be put through waivers if he doesn't begin the season on the Major League roster or disabled list.
