Opener in Jacksonville Suspended Tuesday

Teams will complete game Wednesday before a seven-inning affair
July 26, 2016

Jacksonville, Fla. - The first game of Jackson's series against the Jacksonville Suns was suspended in the bottom of the third inning Tuesday night with the Generals trailing 3-1. With one on and nobody out, thunder and then rain at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville put an end to baseball for the night. The teams will complete the contest through nine innings Wednesday starting at 4:05 pm CT/5:05 pm ET before playing a seven-inning affair afterwards.

Jackson got off to a quick start in the lid-lifter, with Benji Gonzalez smashing a home run over the right field fence to lead off the contest. The team's first leadoff home run of the season put the Generals on top 1-0, and Brett Ash followed with a perfect home half of the frame.

The lead did not last long, as the Suns stormed back with three runs in the second inning. With two outs, Garrett Weber laced a single through the right side of the infield to tie the contest. Jacksonville took the lead on an error by Tyler O'Neill. The right fielder misplayed a fly ball off the bat off James Roberts, allowing a pair of runs to score.

Down 3-1, the Generals put two men on in the third inning before Brock Hebert lined into an inning-ending double play. Ronnie Mitchell led off the bottom of the inning with a double, before the game was put into a delay with Austin Dean at the plate.
