Cardinals Stifled by the Flying Tigers, 5-1

May 8, 2012
The Palm Beach Cardinals (16-16) did not have an answer for the former first rounder Jacob Turner, as he tossed seven shut out innings for the Lakeland Flying Tigers (16-14) to beat the birds, 5-1.

With Seth Maness (3-1) on the bump, the Cardinals knew they would haves a quality start, as the right hander had not surrendered more than three runs in any game. However, on Tuesday night, Maness was rocked for five runs on nine hits in six innings of work.

In the second inning, Maness gave up four straight singles, allowing his first run of the game on a single by Hernan Perez. Maness avoided big damage as he induced ground ball double play, allowing for the second run to score.

In the next inning, Maness was victimized for his fourth home run of the season, as the three run blast by Avisail Garcia gave the Flying Tigers a 5-0 lead.

Having to face a former first rounder, the Cardinals offense struggled to put people on base as they combined for five hits on the night. Their lone run came in the eighth inning, as Rainel Rosario singled in Nick Longmire to make it 5-1.

However, that would be it as the Cardinals dropped the first of four matchups to the Flying Tigers. Vance Albitz led the way with two hits in three at bats.
