PawSox and Yankees Flip Flop Again

July 31, 2012

For the eighth time in the last 12 days, the Pawtucket Red Sox and Scranton/Wilkes Barre swapped spots atop the I.L. North Division. The Sox rule the roost (for today) after a 4-2 win in Rochester. On the day that both Lars Anderson and Scott Podsednik were traded away, The PawSox got on the board early. In the first, Jason Repko, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a Mauro Gomez single. An inning later, Repko belted a two run homer, scoring Jon Hee. In the sixth inning Andy LaRoche doubled home Gomez to cap the PawSox' scoring. In the fifth, former PawSox and Boston outfielder Darnell McDonald smashed his first home run in a Scranton uniform, a solo shot.

Starter and winner Zach Stewart (2-2) combined with Garrett Mock, Daniel Bard and Chris Carpenter to strike out 14 Yankees hitters. Carpenter retired Corban Joseph with runners at first and third to end the game. Carpenter earned the save (2).

Pawtucket (62-49) heads to Lehigh Valley for a two game series that begins on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.
