Bees' Alcantara named to MLB All-Star Futures Game

June 30, 2014

(BURLINGTON, IA)- Bees' pitcher Victor Alcantara has recently been named to the World Team for the All Star Futures Game on July 13 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Futures Game features the top talent in minor league baseball and showcases players who show potential to be Major League players. The game is part of a three day event leading up the Major League Baseball's All Star Game.

Alcantara, 21, is ranked as the Angels 17th best prospect by mlb.com. In 16 games this season he has posted a 4.24 ERA in 70 innings pitched. He has showcased his ability to dominate hitters and is currently leading the team in strikeouts with 66. That number is also good for the 12th highest in the Midwest League. He also was rookie level Orem's 2013 strikeout leader, with 48 in 59 innings pitched.

He will be the first Bees player to participate in the Futures Game since the team has become affiliated with the Los Angeles Angels, prior to the 2013 season. The last Bee to participate in the Futures Game was Chih-Fang Pan in 2012.

Alcantara was previously set to be the Angels lone participant in this year's game, but Inland Empire shortstop Jose Rondon has also been named to the World Team in place of injured Astros top prospect Carlos Correa.
