Jered Weaver struck out 11 over six strong innings Wednesday afternoon as the Salt Lake Bees rolled to a 9-3 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Security Service Field. Weaver (6-1) yielded one run on six hits and did not issue a walk. The reigning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week struck out 14 in his previous start, a two-hit shutout of Sacramento. The former first-round draft pick went 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA in four starts with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim earlier this season but returned to the Bees after 2005 American League Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon came off the disabled list. "I'm just trying to do my thing and work my way back to the big leagues," Weaver told KRDO Radio. "There's always things I can work on and adjustments to be made. I can work on fastball command and things like that." Nate Bland came on in relief and allowed a run on two hits over two innings. Marcus Gwyn surrendered a run in the ninth. The Bees (47-33) scored of their runs over the final three innings. Ryan Budde and Howie Kendrick hit two-run homers, while Casey Smith cracked a three-run blast in the ninth. Sean Barker went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Sky Sox (33-47). Josh Wilson tripled and scored in the eighth. Jose Acevedo (1-6) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings. The 28-year-old right-hander yielded just one hit over the first six frames before running into trouble in the seventh. In his Triple-A debut, Manuel Corpas surrendered a two-run homer to Budde, the second batter he faced.
