Kit Pellow's grand slam and Cristhian Presichi's three-run shot led Saltillo past visiting Monterrey, 9-5, on Wednesday to avoid a sweep in the best-of-7 Mexican League division series.

Pellow's only hit gave the Saraperos a 4-3 lead before Refugio Cervantes went deep with a solo shot to cap the third. Tom Evans opened Saltillo's four-run fifth with his second long ball of the series and Presichi's homer made it 9-4.

Presichi went 3-for-3 while Jose Rodriguez added two hits.

The Sultanes took a 3-0 lead in the third on a bases-loaded walk, an RBI groundout and a throwing error.

Saltillo reliever Miguel Gonzalez (1-0) started the third and picked up the win. He gave up four runs -- three earned -- on three hits and four walks while fanning two in 2 2/3 frames. Rafael Diaz tossed 2 1/3 scoreless frames to record his third save.

Monterrey starter Alfredo Garcia (0-1) took the loss, yielding five runs on five hits while walking three in 2 1/3 innings. -- Louice Thomas/MLB.com
