Memphis, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds will welcome baseball players past and present the weekend of September 29th for the annual Redbirds Classic Golf Tournament hosted at the Grand Casino Resort's Links at Cottonwoods.
Hall of Famers Fergie Jenkins and Gaylord Perry headline a stellar group of legends. Jenkins was the first Cubs pitcher and first Canadian to ever win the Cy Young Award while Perry was the first pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in both leagues. Former Redbirds favorite Stubby Clapp is a part of the group as well as former Cardinal's stars Bob Forsch and John Tudor. Forsch won 10+ games in 11 of his 16 seasons, including a 20-win season in 1977. Tudor won 21 games and tossed a National League best 10 shutouts in his first season!
The Redbirds will host a party for the Legends and Redbirds season ticket holders on Saturday, September 29th at AutoZone Park. The Redbirds Classic, which is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Memphis Redbirds Baseball Foundation, will begin on Sunday and continue through Monday at The Links at Cottonwoods in Tunica, MS. The Memphis Redbirds Baseball Foundation operates the RBI (Returning Baseball to the Inner city) and STRIPES (Sports Teams Returning In the Public Education System) programs.
